Cracked Head 255,000

Sold my 95 Maxima to a friend about a month ago, he drove it for about 2 weeks and he said it just died on him while driving down the interstate. A local slackjaw mechanic said that it was the headgasket, which is also what I thought it would have been since he lost compression, but the mechanic says that its a cracked head. Would the head really crack before the headgasket would give out?

Doubt it. Usually the head would have to be under extreme stress or temperatures. The gasket would be the first to go and then if he decided to keep running the car (somehow) then this could crack the head. Say going 100 miles after the qasket blown would do the trick.

Which mechanic did he take it to?

No the head gasket will leak first, then if you keep driving your car really hard and heat up the head enough, it will crack....but really rare..your car will eat Antifreeze first then crack your head

Tell him to buy a cheap lower mileage 300-400 VQ30 off www.car-part.com. They got a sh*tload of them, low mileage too.
