Question on wheels...

Hey guys,

I posted in the tires/wheels forum, but no1's responded. I thought my fellow 4th gen brothers would be more helpful. soo...

I'm considering getting 18in evo5's, but was wondering if there is anything special i need to look into. How do you think these rims would perform on infamous nyc streets? Would 18x8 with bolt pattern 5-114 fit w/o any problems? Also, what size tires should i get? tirerack.com recommends 235-40-18.

Also, im riding on stock springs/struts, will I still have the horrible 4x4 look, or will it be hidden a little with the increase in rim size?

Sorry about all the questions, but I don't know too much about wheels in general.

Thanks for any help,
Chris

#1.I thought Evo's in size 18 dont sell no more, thought they Stopped making them.

#2.18" Rims, I wouldnt worry about on NYC roads, if you were stating 19", then i'd say take your time not to bend the rims.

#3. Mostly, just bring the rims to a tire shop, they should know te right fitment unless you like the offset to make the rims stick out(which looks weird on a max).

#4. Yes, you will have the dreadful 4x4 look. It wont have a big of a gap,but it'll be there. Suggest the next mod you do is drop it, Trust me.. You car will look & handle better =)

I thought so too, but apparently tirerack.com has still has some limited quantities.

What exactly is the offset? I'm just going by whats offered on the website.

But will the 4x4 look be the same as, worse, or better then the stock rims?

Thanks MaxFanatic for your input!

Yeah, Evo5's were my first wheel choice, but now moda r6's got my attention, especially them 19's.

The 4x4 Look will still be there, but not as bad as it looks with stock rims. And since you live in NYC.. you will feel them bumps and potholes even more since you have no drop and your rims being bigger. So when you dip into a hole and/or bump, you will feel it. So that's why some people say drop first, but it dont matter. Get tthe rims/wheels and do a drop later. You'll feel the difference between Drop with 18's and no Drop with 18's

And the offset given by Tirerack is what you should go by. So no need to worry about that, there offset is correct.

i believe stock size is 55. i dont think that size will be able to fit in the wheel well with an 18in rim...

The 4x4 look worstens because the tire has lower profile, and not being lowered makes it just a bigger gap. In other words, rim size increases and tire diameter(height) decreases. If you are worrying about the whole suspension thing just get some Tein H techs. They only lower like an inch so you have more tolerance.

aha...i have c2000's(they stopped making these in 2001 i think??{correct me if im wrong}) anyways...the gap gets worse...and the ride becomes bumpier and feels more solid.but having that pleasure of putting rims on ur car is worth it...plus u get used to it.im getting dropped soon so yeah...

Like I always say, drop first before wheels. I prefer a lowered car on stock wheels than fancy wheels & 4x4 stance. Its no different from those trucks with dubs but has major wheel well gaps.

A agree with you DR-Max, only reason i'm kinda rushing is because they dont make the evo5's nemore, and tirerack has limited quantities. So i'm really not sure what to do. I could drop and get the rims at the same time, but that would set fire to my wallet lol..

i disagree...because more ppl will notice the 18s before the drop...once u drop ur car no one will even notice that ur lowered.(unless its another max owner-or someone that knows what they're looking)they'll be more likely comment on ur evos.

Show me an unlowered car with 18's and I will notice it right away that it is NOT lowered even if you don't tell me it isn't. Just because you have bigger wheels/tires doesn't mean that the wheel well gap isn't much noticeable. 4x4 stance will always be noticeable regardless of wheel size.

Well, I went the get rims first, drop later.. Well, When i got the Stock 5.5 Rims, This honda owner i met when i was putting new thread on it already knew i didnt drop it, Because thats what he told me. "Need to drop that shyt", he seemed to know alot about Maxima's because he told me parts I should get to make car stick out.. Once i got the drop and adding some ****, Car = looks much better, handles better. And plus people think im riding 18's =x..

This is an unlowered maxima on dubs. Tell me if you can't tell that the car is not lowered. If this is so with dubs, having 18's would be just the same. Drop first before wheels.

oh i never said it wasnt...but the wheel gap isnt really something most people worry about...its a car enthusiast thing i believe...most people would look at the rim.not at the gap.the rim will always be more noticeable than the gap...a nice car with rims will look nice with rims.drop or not.

see the gap?haha...i go lowered today!

when you increase your wheel/tire size without lowering your car...the gap becomes way more obvious....

cefiro what are you smoking? of course people will notice the rims before the drop...cuz it ain't STOCK rims/tires...them ***** is aftermarket...and I don't know what kind of car enthusiasts think that getting rims without lowering it, is acceptable...maybe you? cuz you were riding on those 18s for a long time before you went lowered...

i never thought it was acceptable...i thought it was a total waste of money because i spent money on 18s and realized they still look like 15s without the drop...

what settings are u running on with your d2s??still on hardest?
