No traction at the track problem

aright i went to the track for the first time last fri... i ran a 15.3 with my 18 inch rims which are heavy as hell..... i have for mods.... Stillen aluminum flywheel,stage3 clutch, stillen cai, short throw shifter, stillen y pipe, greddy sp catback, ngk copper plugs, 300z fuel filter .....

Well first i had my 15inch blades on with some yokohama tires... i lanched at 2500rpms... and spun threw 3rd gear and then it bogged out... i did not floor it till after second gear.... and when i stomped on it it just spun till i shifted to 3rd it spun till about 4 grand and then bogged and i ran a 17 and then a 17.1

I am going to buy 2 light rims and some wide drag tires... someone please give me a few pointers and a good cheeper place to look so i dont get my buttlaughed at next week. lol

Thanks alot guys

18's at the track wont get you a good time....if your running a stage 3 clutch and y pipe with exhaust...you should definitely be in the mid to high 14's ... get a lightweight 15" or 16" ....if you spinning on the track, its obvious that your tires arent doing a good job...you could get some street legal slicks or some ultra high performance tires like the nitto 555's or the toyo proxes t1s's .. both of those tires are good and sticky and good for the track but expensive.....rota rims are light, so are enkei's, ssr's, etc..

technique is a lot more important than mods. with what you listed there, you should be running A LOT better than 17... stock should run A LOT better than 17... just work on your driving.

aright i knew alot of ppls were going to tell me that ... but its very true ... i think a stock max should run a 15.6 .. i think ... correct me if im wrong.... now here is another question ... if i get stickier tires will i have a bigger chance of wheel hop , and a better chance of snaping a halfshaft or messing up my new 2000 tranny??

and how wide of a tire should i get?

What is a "stage three clutch". Remindes me of the story Neal told be about this tard that was like "you got stage two on that maxima"?

Anywho, A maxima with a y-pipe does not spin the tires through 3rd unless your driving in the rain. A powerful bolt-on 3.0 4th gen can lay some nice rubber in 2nd but you can't burn them through 3rd gear. Especially at a preped track. Did you accidently drive throught the water box.

Good tires are important. But driving ability is much much more. A good driver can pull just as good 60' times on skinny all season tires as $200 a piece S-03's.
