Compression

Guys I seriously need to know what are some signs of having bad engine compression? I originally thought my car problems could relate to a bad fuel filter but now I'm not so sure. Starting system works fine as well as the charging system. Don't get me wrong the car cranks up but occasionally what happens is the car will try to crank but not, shakes a little before it finally turns over, like it's not getting enough gas. Any help is appreciated.

ck fuel pressure and then run a compression test - you can barrow the parts/tools from any autozone or such! good luck
