Pics of the New APC 95/96 Clear/Red Taillights
the truth be told
Well, let's look at the current situation:
For a long time now, there have not been any production made clear/red tails for the 95-96 models. So, a couple of entrepreneurial folks have gone ahead and started making custom versions of them for a somewhat reasonable fee. I don't know how many they've sold, but I imagine it's been enough to make them happy... and they want to keep it that way.
Then you have folks on this site who have paid their $190 or so for these taillights and are proud of their bragging rights. Not everyone is quick to jump on these one-off custom jobs, because it's not being done by a "real" business. Just a guy in a garage with some heat gun skills. I'm not knocking it, only pointing out that it's easier to trust a big name company.
So, with word of APC producing these sought-after clear/red tails, both the sellers and buyers of these custom taillights are ticked off. And apparently, in denial. The sellers don't want to lose their extra cash business to APC vendors. And the Maxima owners who have the "garage kit" ones don't want to be snubbed as having supposedly inferior clear/red tails once other members get these new production quality ones.
Personally, when I get my APC's, I won't be bragging. I could care less if someone else has garage kit custom tails. I only want to sweeten my ride. And that's the point here, for all of us to enjoy the ride.
'nuff said.

Gary,
Since you've only been a member here since 03-21-2001, you have missed a lot of broken promises made by APC. Maxima enthusiasts have consistently e-mailed this company asking them to develop this product from your car. They have either responded by saying that 'the product is in development' or 'there is not enough demand for this product.' This has been going on for at least 2 yrs. So when someone says that APC lights will be here soon, I laugh. I shoudln't even really care since I own a '98. Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it.

Hi Nick,
Well thanks for filling me in. Yes, I had no idea that this has been an ongoing issue. No wonder why there's such sarcasm about it!
Quick question: In the previous years where APC has made promises, did any vendors support this as well? To the point of saying they expect shipment in a few weeks?
If you or someone else knows the direct contact info for APC, please post it--I wouldn't mind giving it a go just to see what turns up. Not having been jilted by them before, I guess I'm willing to take my shot.
SprintMax: I apologize if I came across as if on a white horse. I didn't realize the background of this whole thing.

have they supported it? why yes.. its been on NOPI's homepage for over 1 year now..
my local speed shop had it in their catologue when i bought my first maxima in early 99 but they didn't have a pic.. i ordered them and the front bumper lense.. but then the guy told me that APC told them they were on back order..
I posted to the maxima malling list and asked about getting them.. tehy gave me the email address of a guy in Queens (David L) .. i contacted him and then i had them done immediately.. i loved them.. they were perfect.

if you don't believe me.. 1HOTMAX is having the same problem with the altezza's

APC does indeed.... SUCK!
They've basically duped their vendors. Mass confusion. Chaos ensues.
Here's the deal: I called GodFatherCustoms, which lists the clear/red tail combos for the 95-96 Maxima as "awaiting status", and got the phone number for APC (800-594-4272). I called APC and spoke with their sales department.
"Are you planning to ship clear/red taillights for 95-96 Maximas?"
"No. We carried them a long time ago, but they've been discontinued. We are NOT making them anylonger. Sorry."
There you have it. Unless, of course, APC has bad internal communication and everyone has a different understanding. But this salesperson I spoke to seemed quite confident that they won't be carrying it. Ever again.
!@#$%&* vendors. There are so many Maximas out there waiting for these kinds of mods. This is really Nissan's fault. The 97-99 tails should be usable by 95-96 models. Why do they have to change the shape of component parts so often? Honda is smart--they have many concurrent years where components are compatible across the board. That's why there are so many aftermarket parts for them.
Oh yes, and hats off to you Sprintmax. You were definitely right about this. We should put APC on the "untrustworthy" list of aftermarket sources.

The NOPI site is a joke also because what they send is a set of clears and a can of red spray paint for plastic. It's an insult to your intelligence. I guess I should be concerned because I have a 97 , but I hate to see people getting ripped off.
David never made for the 97+ .. I do..
and david isn't making 95/96 lights anymore.. he is selling his last set in the for sale forum
