So today I drove from Louisville to Buffalo. Averaged 25.6 mpg, doing between 65-90 the entire trip.

My car was paced with several hundred pounds of stuff, as im moving back home from school.

But the kicker is, the CEL has been on for about a week, showing the rear O2 code and ks code. I would have replaced them before the trip, but i cant afford a new 02 for another week or so.

Great mileage, loaded car, CEL. can you say VQ POWER!

You want to replace them. I get 30mpg when I do road trips, and thats with an avg speed of 80-90mph and a few 100mph+ sprints.

 

Did I mention I love crack? But anyway, I just got my max since and it was a hand me down beater and I am loving the thing. I was surprised with the gas mileage when I started driving it since it was a V6.

Hmmmm I find that the rear o2 sensor and knock sensor go off together quite often. The rear o2 sensor clearly has no effect on the engine unlike its brethren front o2 sensors, so it must be the knock sensor that effects the rear o2??? Obviously I'm looking to avoid purchasing both sensors... what'dya think....

 

I was under the impression that the rear o2 sensor going bad casued the 0304 ghost code for the ks to appear as well. most people get around 20-22 mpg when this occurs. i was amazed that I got almost 26, even with at least 500 pounds of crap in the car. (not including my 215 pound a$$)

 

sadly, my Max was a victim of neglect caused by older brother (he was orig. owner)

 

The car I had before this was a 01 Jetta 1.8T with the APR program and it would blow the doors off of this car. I had to part with that car and take this one, I am a little ruff on her but I am slowly fixing her up. I don't beat to much on this car as it is my daily driver, but I am hard on all the cars I drive.

 

When the rear o2 goes bad, it does not affect fuel economy nor does it trip the 0304 code. Only the front o2s will cause those.

then................why did a code for my REAR O2 sensor 0304 ks appear at the same time............unless theyre both bad. which, while a possibility, i doubt.

How many miles do you have on your car? If more than 70K, I wouldn't be surprised if you KS is dead. Mine died at 77K.

 

Yeah, mine has 115k on it. It might be dead, but im hoping its just the O2 sensor.

 

Aaaah no!! my CEL just came on today, and i just turned 70k miles yesterday...i hope its not the ks..

 

Us people in Hawaii would like to have the ability to travel long distances to get good gas milage like that, but its just no going to happen unless they connect all the islands here.

KS is a ghost code and will not cause the CEL to come on.

 

Your CEL came on because of the rear 02 sensor ( 0707 I believe), the KS ( 0304 code) does not cause the CEL to come on, so you probably have had the KS code for a while and didn't know it, THT is correct

 

Gas is around 2.40 down here. We dont use coconuts as fuel, we use weed, cuz its more powerful.

 

wait a second- why would the ks ghost and not trip the cel? It makes no "sense" to me to have a "sensor" in the first place if its not going to trip the cel. Also, it seems a little fishy to me that there are many max owners that have the duplicate rear o2 and ks going off at the same time. I'm pretty sure that the amount of oxygen in my emissions will not effect my engine and therefore not cause knocking... but it seems possible that the adjustment the car makes once the ks goes bad may affect the amount of o2 in the emissions...no? So either way, which sensor should I replace first... o2 or ks.

 

You know....that almost makes sense. Everyone else says its the O2 sensor that goes bad...and the "ghost code" for the ks dissappears once you change the O2 sensor.

 

Its sad....gas is about 2.35 for regular here...2.55 for 93. Is that 2.40 for regular? or the good stuff

 

COOOOOOLLL I'm going to get my rear o2 sensor and just change that before I go out ...wait...I thought I was supposed to get the KS first and change that and maybe my REAR o2 sensor will stop going off.

 

It's 2.4 for reg. The cost of importing everything...
