Clutch Master Cylinder removal?

Hey, i'm doing my 5spd swap, and i'm having a REALLY HARD time removing the hydraulic lines from the clutch master cylinder. At first I wasn't sure it was the right size wrench, because on the cylinder, it says 5/8. i ended up using a 10mm open-ended wrench, but that stripped the nut a bit. what can I do to get the line off of the master cylinder? This is the only thing that's stopping me from going on to bigger things, like dropping the tranny.

I could use a vice grip, but that would defnitely be a risk in stripping the nut.
Any other solutions for people who have done this, or have just replaced their master cylinders?

thanks,
-Freddy
