Window tint question

Can anyone offer some advice on how to remove tint without having to pay a shop to do it? Is it as simple as a razor blade?

For guys in California with tint, what level tint can you get away with? Anyone in Cali get any crap from the cops for the front windows being tinted or all windows being too dark?

Thanks.

i had a guy put mine on for like $300. It was 35%. It looks good, not to dark and i never get picked up. Maine law is 50% and they dont know the diff. To remove it i would imagine you just find an edge and peel. Its just semi sticky glue.

I had to remove all of my tints when I purchased my car from out of state. I just rolled down the windows and found an exposed edge just at the top of the window and slowly slid a razor blade between the film and glass. Once you get a corner up, slowly peel it back. I found that if I pulled it too quickly, it would leave more adhesive on the glass and would break the film into more pieces. Once I got the film off, I used goo-gone and windex with a lot of paper towels to remove all of the remaining adhesive.

The rear window can be tough, especially if it's been on for a long time and exposed to the sun alot. I started off with a razor blade and got nowhere slow because the tint would peel right off but the adhesive remained on the window. You want to make sure that the adhesive sticks to the tint when you peel it off and not to the window. The following method worked like a charm for me;
1-cut open a black plastic garbage bag, lay it over the outside of your rear window and cut it to size.
2-soak the inside of rear window with ammonia and push the plastic thats been cut to fit onto the ammonia. The moisture will hold the bag in place.
3- Let everything sit in the sun for a half hour.
4-Remove bag start to peel tint. It should come off like butter.
Keep a heat gun handy if you run into a stubborn spot just give it some heat and you should be ok. Just be REALLY careful with the heat gun or use a hairdryer instead.
Try it the easy way first (just getting in and peeling) and if that works I'm happy for you but if it doesn't give this a try.

just use a razor blade, then use acetone or nailpolish remover to rub the glue off...after that simple windex will clean the windows off, its not oo tough

Wow that sucks...I just got my tint done and it only cost me $100 for 35% tint. Also on the removal...a razor blade, paper towels, water, some kind of cleaning product for the glass, and patients.
