caliper Question!

So i was changing my brake pads today and did the front two with ease. As a went to change the back and place the new pads on I had trouble pushing back the piston to make space for the new pads? It would not move at all. Does this mean my piston is ceased? If so how does this happen?

thanks
WALSHY

Caliper tool is needed, get it from Autozone, or use something to turn it, Haynes manual says needle nose pliers.

You were rotating the rear pistons in clockwisen right? (The rear pistons rotate in, the front pistons compress in).

If they didn't go in, it means your pistons and seized and its time to visit www.partsamerica.com and pick up two reman rear calipers for $80 a piece. Swap out the calipers, check the parking brake cables to make sure they aren't damaged/seized and then .

Walhsy, I just did the brakes on our '95 SE today as well. The rear calipers have to rotate in quite a few turns if your old brakes are worn. I didn't think one was moving at all either for awhile but kept turning and finally got it - get the tool its much easier!

Now I have a question to post as well. The pads were a premium set that supposedly didn't need shims or adhesive of any kind. However the rear set, especially the driver side, sound like they are loose / rattling when not braking. Is this just going to take some time to seat properly or might I need to adjust the caliper a bit. The driver side was a bit looser of a fit when installing them. Thanks for any tips.

I don't think you need to adjust the caliper, they should just automatically set. I have the shimless pads also, no rattles. The one pad might have been undersized a bit or ure missing something..maybe grease?
