EVAP vent control valve

ok, http://www.geocities.com/richhurley_24/evap.jpg, according to someone on the org thats the evap canister vent control valve. i have a code for that, 0903. i just went out there once i saw this picture and went to see if anything was loose, nothing was, but wen i went to turn the key to the on position (not fully started) i realize that it is the only thing in my engine that makes a noise. is it suppose to? the noise lasts only for about 1 second, but ive never really listened out for such a sound...

There are parts of the EVAP system in both places. But, if you got code 0903 then the problem should be in the back.
From the FAQ:
0903
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0903 indicates a problem with the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Control Valve or its associated electric circuit.

This part is used by the Engine Control Module to perform the fuel system leak test. Since it is used only for self-diagnosis your engine will run perfectly well despite the dashboard Malfunction Indicator Lamp.

The EVAP canister and this valve are located under the car, near the rear left tire. You might check to make sure all the electrical connectors in that area are secure.

There's no telling how expensive the repair will be, because no definite diagnosis has been made. Maybe you just have to re-plug a loose connector. Since the EVAP system is part of the emissions control system you might have warranty coverage.

You sure that noise is not the IACV making noise? It has a weird sound to it when you turn the key.

http://www.geocities.com/richhurley_24/evap.jpg the noise its coming from this thing, i touched it and had someone turn the key, felt it, kinda sounds like the antenna going down after u turn the car off, but very brief. i went down near the tire, theres so much crap down there i dont know wut the hell im lookin at, but i just looked for any wires that were loose or any tubes. nothing was loose

Welcome to the club... be happy you haven't got the second EVAP code that comes (can't remember it off the top of my head.)

0903 has been haunting my max for ~ 9 months or more, and more recently it's been accompanied by another generic EVAP code.

I've removed every electrical connector, hose and anything else to do with EVAP and check it and reassemble, replaced all the hoses off the purge control valve in the engine bay and still to no avail...

When I reset they generally don't reappear until I drive long stretches on the highway, for the summer I've been mostly around town and my light hasnt come on for a few weeks; but it sure will tonight when I head to NH.

I haven't replaced anything with new parts yet though... I've also heard from the guys that did my exhaust recently that a bad gas cap can cause it, still haven't changed that to see if it fixes the problem.
