Rims on an 98 'SE

Ok, I got 4 new tires a few months ago and over the weekend I noticed that one of the tires was pretty much flat. I probably put around 7k miles on them so far. I track my mileage by the 1/4 tank and I noticed that my mileage was going down the toilet but I thought maybe I needed to change the 02 sensors since they are original (I have 98k). It takes about 2 days for the tire to go flat now.

I brought it back to the place I bought the tires and they suggested that since they are alloy wheels, it may be the rim. Is that right?? Worst case is that I need to buy a new rim. Any suggestions? I'll know more this afternoon.

Thanks!

nah. That would be the last thing. would have the tire checked. I would leave the tire mounted and put it in a large tub of water. see were bubbles develop. then go from there. I know that the saturn ion redline stock rims were leaking on the inside of the rim. But i don't think your case is a rim. do the water trick it works.

How can it be the rim if it held air before with the old tires?
The only way i can see it was the rim was if it was bent or cracked.

I think its a leak in the tire. (Nail in tire or not sealed properly between the rim and tire)

Did the tire shop even check for leaks when you took it back?

similar thing happened to me. i had a really slow leak where the rim seals the tire. I took it to a tire shop. at first they said the reason was that my rim was bent. They said they'll take the tire off the rim and clean it for a fee, so i said what the heck. They dremeled out some debris off the rim and after that no more problems.

:-) I took the car back and had them rotate the tires and check the 'bad' tire. Rick James - ur right - it was a small nail in the tire. This is the first time I've had a flat that the tire didn't go flat all the way and the rim destroy the tire. It saved me > $125 :-)

Thanks!

That's what all the shops say first. They always blame it on your rim, they never think the tires they sold you could be defective. My story was pretty much the same. Slow leak, shop blames it on the rim. Went and bought another rim, stuck the tire on it, and it still leaks. Switched with a new tire and everything was fine.
