AE, DTM-what to watch out for

So tommorow rome06 and I are doing DTM, AE, and tinting the corners on both of our cars. The part that im nervous about is the oven, it just seems like the whole headlight/taillight is going to melt, or the part thats touching the pan is going to melt.

I basically need to know what i should watch out for, and what to do and what to not do when doing these mods. I have the writeups, but I just want some other people to give advice. Any input is appreciated.

Edit:yeah...i meant dtm

Do you mean DTM? Maybe use a heat gun and only heat the outside part of the lens.

the oven method is extremely easy and safe. just do it for 10 minutes and try pulling on it. i found the taking apart the easiest part when doing my red/clears. the only thing you should be careful of is how u lay out the lenses inside the oven. I accidentally put a pointy edge of the lense against the bottom of the oven and it curled up. have fun

Make sure you take all the little screws out of the taillights so you don't crack the lense trying to pry it off (like I did)...don't forget to put the same screws back in once you're done (like I did)...watch out for the black tar that's on the taillights (it gets everywhere!)...on your headlights don't undo the screws that aim the beams (like I did)...I still don't know which are the correct screws but you're only suppossed to undo 4 of them. Oh, and don't try to tighten the bolts so much that you strip them when you put your lights back in (like I did).

Overall its a pretty easy mod. The oven part is the easiest, I just used a mid level rack (placed them directly on the rack) and they weren't even hot enough to start melting. Just be patient and take your time prying the lenses off. I found it easiest to place the lense face down on a surface then start prying the housing off...twist whatever utensil you're using to start seperating the two parts. Tape everything really good because spray paint can find its way between cracks in the tape if you're not careful. For the headlights, let them cool down from the oven before you tape them to avoid the adhesive melting on to the chrome on the housing. The tape can then chip the finish off when you remove it afterwards...remove it carefully!

It is fairly easy to do. Just be careful with the oven, keep checking it and see how easy it is to pry open so you dont leave it in for too long and warp the lense. And what Northern Maxima said, tape up the headlights and corners after they cooled down. I made the mistake of taping the corners when they were still warm and when I removed the tape, the chrome came with it. Thanks.

250 for 10 min usually works well - i did headlights, corners, and tails this way.

make sure on the inner tails you take those 4 little black screws out - cost me buying new ones bc i cracked them forgeting they were in there.

Well, we didn't finish everything because i didn't have the right tools at my house, so the only thing we did was completely black out my orange corners. It looks sooo much better than orange or clear corners on my sterling mist. Rome tinted his clear corners, and it looked retarded so we used nail polish remover to get that paint off. Also installed some $20 Autozone foglights. Those little bishes are bright as hell, look nice too.
