emissions question

I have to pass an emissions test here in the St. Louis area and my car has a Stillen y-pipe and a test pipe replacing the catalytic converter.. so i'm thinking i won't pass emissions lol. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with that around st louis or elsewhere. I'm thinking i'll just end up having to order a new cat but i'd rather not if i dont have to. Any advice would be apprectiated.

I think you did a little too much exhaust wise. In any state where there are emission tests I would just do a y pipe and leave it at that being that there are minimal gains for the money by running with no cat or a hi flow cat. I would say do some highway driving before you get in there and cross your fingers. If you don't pass then just get it fixed.

it could be close...however if they are like MA emissions they just plug into your ecu and check for codes, so if its like that and you dont have any codes then your fine. good luck

just warm up 30 mins before the test. i hear that's suppose to negate the y-pipe.

It will help him pass, IF he just had a Y-pipe. He also has a test pipe, so it will be very hard.

I dunno if this will help, but it's an idea. When I was in high school, I had a z-28 with a stage 3 racing chip. Couldn't pass emissions for the life of me. I was asking everyone and anyone for ideas, and one guy told me to run to an auto parts store and try dropping in some gas additives designed to help with emisions. I believe the one I used was called "CD-2". You're supposed to add it to at least a half tank of gas, run all of that gas down, then go straight to a inspection site. I passed with flying colors. I did that every yr til that car was totaled. Try it out, see if it helps. Much cheaper than buying a cat.

yea.. here they hook a tube up to your muffler and test the gasses comming out.. so i could be effed. But i think i'll try some of that additive stuff first and see what happens.

My advice, ask around for a slightly shady gas station. My car was in and out in 10 minutes, getting both inspection and emissions.

I'm from MA and was wondering about getting an Y pipe, so does that mean that I'd end up being fine if I ended up getting one? I'd pass emissions and all if thats all I did to the exhaust?

Yup, you'll be fine. Just warm up the car...a 15 min drive will do it. I've passed emmisions on my Cattman without a problem. You can mod all the air flow in your car, intake, headers, y-pipe, and full cat-back, and still pass emissions without a problem. As long as you have a cat functioning correctly.
