How do I remove a relay? I tried pulling up but I am afraid I am going to break something. My main goal is to get the relay box unhooked. Anyone know? Thanks.

There are two relay boxes in the engine compartment of your 4Gen Maxima. They work the same way. Each black plastic relay box cover has a molded latch at each end. Hold a medium size flat blade screwdriver in a vertical orientation, and insert the blade between the latch and the cover. Pry against the cover to force the latch away from the cover. Pull upward on the cover as you do this. As soon as one end is free the other end will come loose without using the screwdriver.

When you have the relay box cover off the next thing you will want to do is remove a relay. Each relay has one latch. Use the same screwdriver to push the latch away from the relay. Pull upward on the relay as you do this. The relay will come loose as soon as the latch is released.

Both of these screwdriver operations requires only modest force. You are working with plastic parts so be gentle.

Installing a relay and then the relay box cover requires no tools. Just push down and it snaps into place.
