Replaced Seals... PROBLEMS

well after replacing the seals everything was going fine hooked everything up and went to start the car started right up and as quick as it started it stalled out. Pumped the pedal a few times thinking it was just not getting gas stayed on for longer and stalled out. I got it to the point now that i can keep it running but if i let it idle it stalls out. Sounds like some air is getting out of the plenum around where the EGR is. Would that cause it? What else could be some of the issues?

Um... what seals are you talking about? I assume the spark plug tube seals that go in the valve cover...

Sounds like a vacuum leak - check all the hoses.

Did you use new gaskets on everything you detached?

Yes replaced the spark plug tube seals and valve cover seals everything was brand new genuine nissan parts. Checked the hoses everything is fine and there arent any hoses where the sound is coming from. Im almost certain its the EGR like something with the bolts but dont want to take the stinkin plenum off again =/

Did you replace the plenum gasket, EGR gaskets.. .did you take off the TB or IACV? if yes, did you replace those gaskets?

Perhaps you forgot to connect one of the vacuum lines to the plenum/TB/IACV... look carefully.

Thats the thing i dont think i put an egr gasket back on maybe it fell down in the engine when i took the plenum off because i didnt see one. The pvc hose broke but i rapped with tape and have the new one coming in tomarrow theres no leak there. But if theres an egr gasket that must be it

You would have to be sucking in alot of air to make it stall. Check all your tubes and clamps. what type of gasket sealant you used?

I used the recomended super rubber gasket sealer stuff. The more and more it sounds like theres no seal on the egr leaving a nice gap for air suction

There is a metal gasket that is used on the EGR guide tube (at both the EGR valve end and the plenum end). You don't have to pull the plenum to get to that gasket.

The stalling at idle seems like a vacuum leak or too low of a base idle. Did you fiddle with the IACV or TB?

Replace that metal gasket on the EGR tube first - mine fell out while putting things back together. I didn't have any leaks though - I just noticed it when I pulled out of the garage - so then I popped the tube loose and put the gasket back in.

What is the IACV or TB? Its been idling good sometimes it sits right at 750 rpm but it seems like if i rev the engine hard as the RPMS drop it drops um really low and the whole car shakes and sometimes stalls out. It doesnt stall out quickly at all now though just if i rev real hard and on the drop. I can feel it about to and just give it a little gas and brings it back up and idles. But would that gasket make the difference in really messing up the whole running of the engine because it does sound like thats where the air is coming from is right side of the plenum along the firewall

That air you are hearing is exhaust leakage - that should be going back into the plenum.

TB = throttle body
IACV = idle air control valve

From the EGR tube that connects to the rear of the plenum - its that hard metal tube with two bolts that you disconnected to remove the plenum.

Ok well ill replace that gasket. Also are there two metal things that look like spacers or something that go in it as well? They fell down into the engine but never got to the floor. Is that where they came from?

Don't remember any metal spacers... unless you are thinking of the EGR gasket - it is metal - not rubber or plastic.

Its probably the egr gasket you refering to. Its a metal shingle sort of. looks also like a washer too. The EGR gasket is not expensive at all. you can get one cheap at the dealership. All you have to do is slide the gasket in between the plenum and the EGR guide tube and screw everything nice and tight.

Clean the IACV and the TB. See the stickies for more info. Also get yourself a Haynes manual if you don't have one. Its very useful for these types of maintenance items.

Its right under where you just replaced the EGR gasket. It might also be leaking from one of the throttle body coolant hoses...

Man you really did a number on your car while replacing those seals!

Am i able to get to that hose easily? Nothing visible from the top is missing. All hoses look connected where its leaking from makes sense if its underneath the egr

I have a similar problem. At first the car shakes at stops and was worse with the ac on. the code eas cylinder 1 misfire so i took it to the dealers to find the cause. they said it was the #1 fuel injector. since the injectors were hard to reach i replaced all the rear injectors, but not the front. the car ran like a brand new car for about20 minutes and then the same shake returned. the next morning the car was hard to start and seemed to be flooding. when i got it started there was grey smoke that smelled like fuel from exust, put put put sound was coming from the mufler, and this has been the problem since. it has those conditions and the shake worsens when the ac is on. when driving you can smell lots of gas smell coming from the exaust. performance seems to worsen after the car reaches normal temp. the code from the ecm says multiple misfire. when it was only cylinder 1 misfire i drove the car but the shake was annoying, now i can't drive the car and it even misfires when the rpm's are low and i'm driving it. does anyone have a clue what's going on, i will appreciate any response, before i take it back to the stealers
