those w/ c.f. trunks, question. i need opinions before i do this

how do you like it? my main question is about painting it. i have three options, either leave it alone( all c.f.), paint just the back side ( leave the top side c.f.) or paint the back side, but leave a c.f. strip that goes with the tail lights, you know? opinions? i want to see what you guys think. thanks
anyone, what would you do?

doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose of a super light hood compared to stock and then add a coat of primer, three coats of paint and two of clear coat? or does the paint really not weigh that much at all?

paint doesnt weigh that much. layers of paint and clearcoat are thinner than a piece of ceran wrap.....thats y they are measured in mils and not inches

I like the idea of painted CF but think if your going to spend the money on a CF lid show it off, your not buying it for the weight reduction so unless you taking you car to shows and such keep it CF.

thanks guys. id just like the trunk to look like the hod, you know, just the top part c.f. and paint the back/bottom half. im just gonna leave it alone for a few months. i got it from redlinemax with a %10 discount. some day down the road this will be for some weight reduction, but now its more looks. thanks

one question when painting the CF, they need to sand it down right, prime, and paint. But the part you want to stay in CF will still need an overlay of clear when the painted part is complete. Do they have to sand the CF part, they have to right??? Will that cause the CF pattern to look dull and sratched? I'm thinking of geting a CF hood and painting half of it, make some design or something, dont like the look of full CF hood for some reason.

not sure if that sand that far down I believe there essentially take off the clear thats already protecting the CF and then priming and painting. If your getting you CF anything painted you wont see the pattern anymore unless they use some translucent type of paint.

so you can't see the texture of it at all? i suppose the paint just fills it all in. or at least the primer does. what about on the underside of a hood. what does that look like? is it CF or just plain? (obviously I don't have one... )

You wont see the texture unless you ask for a paint job that will allow you to see it, which I'm sure will cost a lot of extra $$$. The underside is usually fibeglass or some strong frame to give structural support to the hood, different companies use different materials.

You'll get some CF one day (If you want it) only reason I have a CF hood is cause it was cheaper than buying an OEM hood and having it painted (accident)

i say just keep the CF look, its way too badass to paint over. plus how often do you see a maxima with a cf trunk driving around town? anyways thats my opinion.

Pins on a trunk

There not needed. The only reason the hood requires them is that when moving forward at a high speeds air can get underneath and force the hood upward since its so light.

As far as painting cf and leaving some of it exposed, it shouldnt be a problem
They'll just tape off the section you want exposed and lighly sand and shoot the rest. Then shoot clear over the entire piece when the paint is done.

just a thought. no need to tardsmash
although i did see some people actually use trunk pins and not have it attached to the arms. (trunk completely comes off when pins are removed)

I guess that could work. Not practical though.
You would need to remove the tensioners on the trunk arms, then have the pins mounted to the arms and use the latch to keep it closed.
Not very secure. I wouldnt keep anything in the trunk. It wouldnt take much for someone to unlatch them, and just pull the entire trunk off taking whatever is inside of it.
The hood is mounted different. Its still scred into the hood hinges and secures in the front with the OEM latch. The pins are just additional latching points.

yeah, not really practical is right. there's nothin but downforce on the trunk lid, so it is pretty secure without the additional pins. it would kinda be like you were just lookin for an excuse to use up some old pins or something. i dunno

I would paint the rear part where the tail lights are body color. Leave the top part CF.

WHEW, THAT IS FRIGGIN HOT! Damn, now after seeing that i wanna get a CF hood and do something similar to that....only problem is that my max is "champagne" but if i color scheme it right i think it'll come out ok.

As for the trunk, leave it CF cause CF trunks are pretty rare, let alone on a max, and people will feast their eyes upon it.

aight heres my idea-

go along as planned by leaving the top part carbon and painting the back so as to match the silver bottom/black top color scheme you have going on. however when they go to paint the back side i suggest masking out an italic "MAXIMA" somewhere on the trunk before they paint so after it will be 'written' in carbon like EA did with their logo. i think that would look tottaly sick and it would give you lots of creativity and originality points in shows.
