To drive it...or not?
To drive it...or not?
First off, I'm taking a trip to Snowmass/Aspen on Friday from Denver. I've been getting a clicking sound from my passenger side (I know it's the CV/Axle that is shot). I'm going to replace it this next week, I swear. The wifey's concerned about the four-plus hour drive in the mountains each way. My option is to drive it with the problem or drive a 95' Max on the trip. My dilemna is that the 95' has no go goodies; I.E., Y-Pipe, Suspension mods, and is not a 5-Speed. I'm really looking forward to the twisty road with my own ride, but would hate to get stuck with a broken axle. I guess, let me know what you all would do. I had no apprehension about the drive until it was brought up by the wife, go figure. What to do?---P.S. I have 136K on my car and have had it since day-1. The clicking has been going on for about 1 month.-- Thanks Ya'll.
take the 95. with the wifey in the car, i wouldn't really push the car n endanger her life too through the twisties. i only TRY to push the limit of my car when i'm alone. that way i can show my passengers how great my car can handle n still be safe..-= )...if you really wanna go play, swap the suspension n y-pipe. shouldn't take more then 4-6 hours
You want to take your car because it has y-pipe, and suspension mods, among other things, so you can take it to a twisty road? I assume you want to enjoy your suspension and the y-pipe while pushing the car in the curves on the road? In short you want to push a car with a bad cv? But just imagine you taking a curve and while your having fun in the middle of it, the axle breaks. I don't know how a cars reacts when the axle breaks, and I don't want to find out....do you?
Man, take the 95.
Man, take the 95.
That brings up an interesting point...HOW WOULD a car react while moving if the axle breaks? Would it make you lose COMPLETE control, or would you be able to safely stop your car? The reason why I ask is that my axle boot is torn and leaking grease, and by now it no doubt has affected the driverside axle. I need to replace my brakes too, and wanted to do those first and the axle second...I don't know, bump for the above question
