manual transmission interchange

My 5 spd transmission in my 96 maxima is making some pretty bad noises in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. We think it's a chipped tooth on the main shaft gear. Makes a loud growling noise.

My question is will a 5 spd manual out of a 90 maxima interchange with my 96 maxima? I have the 5spd out of last car the was bad when I bought the car. I was thinking of taking both 5spds and making one out of two.

i am not sure if they are similar or not, Just get a 2000+ 5spd and you should be set for a while.

I used a 2001 Maxima transmission in my 95 SE and it's smooth as butter. The shifter moved back a bit, but that didn't bother me a bit.

My problem is I'm not planning on keeping the car. So I don't want to throw a $1k+ at it. I've already dumped about $500 in it on other repairs (altenator, brakes, radiator, and a belt tensioner). I want to do it as cheaply as possible so I can sell it. And get a 2000 and up SE.
