OEM Windshield Vs Aftermarket
OEM Windshield Vs Aftermarket
I need to replace my windshield due to crack. Regardless of trim level, does all Maxima has bluish shaded on top of windshield for OEM?
Do I have to be specify this color when I replace windshield with aftermarket one?
Local Shop(Non Nissan) gave me quote for $198 Installed. I forgot to ask him if this windshield comes in shaded or not. Is this reasonable price?
Suppose if it's not shaded, is there any way to make it shaded? Like those spray used by optician to slightly tint glasses.
Thanks in advance.

I have a feeling replacement is not as good as stock, although insurance WILL NOT pay for an OEM Nissan windshield. Ever notice how your friends who get a replacement window seem to need a new one every year? I live with the tiny cracks I got (like a tiny bb hole).

Get the OEM
I have a 95 Maxima GLE. The windshield looks like it's been sandblasted when the sunlight hits it just right. No expanding cracks so far. I'm impressed.
Anyway, I also have an 05 Lexus RX330 that hit a pebble and cracked the windshield. OEM is $1400 and aftermarket is $250. So, there has got to be a difference. I searched the internet and discovered that even though the same manufacturer may produce the same windshield for the same vehicle but sell one as OEM and the other as aftermarket, the windshields might be meeting different specs. This could all be BS. The internet, you know. But it seems to make sense that the windshield contributes to the structural integrity of the cabin. It might have a different a residual stress profile. Car makers can't sell a car with a crushable cabin. However, when you go aftermarket, it becomes your problem. Anyway, my insurance only charges me $100 so I got the OEM. Since I'm convinced it's a safety issue, I would have paid $500 if I had to for OEM.

In Illinois you do NOT have to pay the deductible unless your policy has a deductible specified. I have State Farm. My windshields are free. NO deductible. When contacting the glass company, tell them if you have a tint or not. Some of them have glass without a tint. It is less mone but from my experience, all of them from the factory have it. I have had a few windshields replaced - all FREE. Check with your agent on deductibles. The premium is a little higher, but worth it for me.

I remember my co-worker's 92 Saturn was like $1500 OEM, and none of aftermarket was available for that vehicle.
As far as Hunt Point, I found place they would do it for $120, but I am still debating if I should trust quality of their work.
