Its a good idea and I might put a Full size spare in my car. I recently had to use my spare but was already parked at home when I needed it. I thought to take out the spare and save a little weight, which will save me a little on gas but I know, as soon as that spare comes out somethign will happen.
Not much weight is saved, and not much better MPg will be obtained. Unless you have AAA or some other road side assistance, dont take out the spare.
