Is this a description of 'bees in a can'?
Just had a SS Budget Y installed, now at 3/4 WOT or more I hear an exhaust clicking much like a VW bug or karman ghia. Goes away when you let off but sounds like crap. Also have a CAI that is newly installed, may also be contributing to the sound? Mechanic said that my cat backwards looked bad, but that he saw no discernable leaks. Any thoughts, sound clips, or descriptions? Would seciring the Y with a hose clamp help (change the angle of the flex section)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Could be the gaskets for the Y-Pipe. I got a similar clicking sound when I put it into drive, and gets a bit louder when I accelerate. I took it to my exhaust guy and he couldn't find a leak. Took it to another shop, and they found out there's a slight leak on one of the connections for the Y-pipe, but only under load. It does not make any sound when the car is in park.
i kinda get that too, not bees in a can, but ticking. i only notice it at drive thru's when the sound is reflecting off of the wall. goes away in neutral too. whoever finds out let us know. i can get it on a lift, but not started so really theres no point...

I had this problem on a 95 Pathfinder, it was broken studs on the exhaust manifold, where it joins the engine block. Worse when cold, and got better as engine warmed up. Expensive fix.
I also had this problem when the exhaust flex joint began to go bad on my 93 Maxima. Not too expensive to fix, about $150 for stainless. My guess is this problem is more likely if fore/aft motor mounts are failing and you get that backlash feeling as you drop to closed throttle and then gently open it back up. Constant flexing puts lots of strain on flex joint.

I also had this problem on my old 91 max. Very expensive to fix. Hopefully the vq's do not suffer from this illness. Never heard of it happening as of yet. My problem has been pin pointed to another area so I'm happy about that. Hopefully the same story applys for the other guy.
