Opportunity to testfit 1st new Cattman header/y-pipe

Be the very first anywhere to install the new Cattman header/downpipe system. I won't use this email go go into detail, but note these critical upgrades to our very successful New Zealand-made header design:

1. Ceramic-coated mild steel to 304 stainless;
2. MIG to TIG welding;
3. Swaged tube to hand-built 3-1 collectors;
4. 10mm to 12mm head flanges; and,
5. Consistently formed mandrel bent tubing.

We need a customer right away in southern California with a 95-01 Maxima w/ a VG30DE motor (no swaps) and automatic transmission. [The headers were developed on a 6-speed ‘02 so we want to install in a car with the VQ30 motor and auto tranny to make sure the fit is universal.] This will be the first production set of our new US header design, so we'll use the installation to confirm the accuracy of the manufacturing fixture it was made on.

Our header fabricators are in the San Diego area, and the car will need to be dropped off anywhere from ½ to 1 day. I don't want this to seem like spam, so I'll just say that this set of headers is discounted $50 under the anticipated retail price, and the free installation will save hundreds.

Please contact Cattman Performance ASAP at 520.730.9309 if interested (9-6 Pacific Time), I’m still catching up on email after getting back from vacation and might not see an email or PM right away.

Awww, I wish you were on the east coast, I'd jump on it. Good luck with the fitment tests, can't wait to see some results!

Edit: Actually, that's probably a good thing you're not on the EC, cuz now that I think about it, I'm broke.

Errr, he's talking about savings over having a shop install it.

when you're talking about these headers, that's a good chunk of change since it'll cost a few hundred to have installed by a good shop.

Of course cattman is going to install it. They are checking fitment on a new product. They are not going to just give it to him and let him go do whatever he wants.

Who would also complain about saving 50$, even though I bet cattman will give him more than that

Uhhh, no. It's $50 off the part, free install. I was going to comment on that, but I didn't want to taint anyone's feelings about the deal. Read the original post. I don't agree with the way sdoherty_tjm went about saying it, but I agree with the message. For a part that has only shown minimal gains when compared to a y-pipe alone, it is very expensive. Your best best is to try and find someone with aspirations to go S/C'd, where the real gain with headers is. Hopefully this new design will show some more gains for us staying n/a...

Too bad I'm not an auto. I'm a 9 hour drive away but I would probably try and make a way to go if I was auto. Someone go jump on this.

FWIW, I doubt that more than 10% of our header customers has installed their own. I know people who have paid over $500 for installations, unfortunately. Fact of the matter is, they can be removed and replaced in under 3 hours if you know what you're doing.

I still run into the "headers only make minimal gains over a y-pipe" perspective now and then, but I'm sorry, may be true of some brands but it sure has heck doesn't apply to the Cattman Performance header/ypipe system. Wasn't true with the New Zealand-made headers we've sold, even less true for the new design (average power between 3000-6500 rpm went up 5hp).

The evidence is very solid, there have been many dynos. On a VQ30DE with intake and exhaust the headers will easily make 20+hp on a VQ30DE with pretty minimal upgrades. VQ30DE Y-pipes will at best make 12-14hp (nobody needs to drag out that timeworn and totally bogus pair of dyno runs that show a y-pipe making 20hp, the stock baseline dyno is corrupted and the y-pipe run is only average for what a y-pipe would make). I don't think most enthusiasts would consider that a minimal difference.

For those 4th gens that have made the swap, the difference is more dramatic on a VQ35DE - headers make 25+hp and y-pipes only make 7-10hp on that engine.

Sure, the cost per hp is higher with the headers, but that's really not the point - its the power you leave on the table if you don't put them on. Plus, they sound about a thousand times better than any y-pipe, even the Cattman version.
