Joining the bad KS club
I just pulled a 0304 code the other day. Thats good and bad news to me. Good is that now I know I have more power than I realized and bad is that its gonna cost me. I only have about 56,000 miles, wonder why it went so early.

seems like all 4th gen knock sensors go early no matter what. if your knock sensor hasnt gone out yet, your not driving a 4th gen maxima. when i pulled mine out it was cracked in 3 spots on the pastic, yet the crystal part was fine.
I was cleaning my TB and forgot to plug in the MAF, so i triggered the SES light. Turns out i had a hidden code- my knock sensor was bad. So a bad ks doesnt always neccesarily trigger the SES light.
My Cefiro has 239,000kms and threw the 0304 Code.. Went to test KS before replacing and it came up with the 500kohms expected.. so I CLEANED the contacts and BAM.. KS is working fine.. power is back.. accelaration is much faster and smoother
In short CLEAN your KS harness connections first!!

and just wrapped it around end of screw driver tip and wiped the male metal connectors You'll know if cleaning is going to help by doing the Ohm test if it comes up with 500kOhm when testing from the end of the KS harness (other end still attached to KS in car) then its most likely the contacts

i tested mine that way and it was 558 and then the next day decided to test it again and it was 0 .... ahahahaha but i have 1 on the way so oh well
I changed mine at 200K+. ONLY 350 miles on a tank. For me that would suck. I expect at least 400 or I'm mad. I hope it will get better after I change the EGR valve this weekend. Other recent repairs are all 3 O2 sensors and all rotors, pads and calipers. My max will hopefully carry me another 100K+. I love it!

will put in the knocksensor I brought
this is wat i did....first i did the ohm tester.....i put the black on the battery terminal ..and then i connected the red to the harness....i got a reading of 554...this should be good right? so why do i get the code? oh and i have a 96..(i hope that rule about the 95 and 96 is true..lol)

I had same thing brought new sensor, tested old and it showed valid Ohm rating, so never switched, but I think if I retested it when hot it would fail. I think even the motorvale site alludes to that something about don't be surprised when you remove your sensor and test it, that it falls with in valid range.
i have gone threw 3 knock sensors since i have had this car for about 2 yrs...its driving me nuts. its even throwing a code when it isnt mounted to the damn block. its just hanging zip tied out of the way. its been pissing me off for a while

The 0304 Code cleary states Knock Sensor CIRCUIT,, so doesn't actually tell you if its the sensor or the cable.. just that it hasn't recieved a resistance back in the alllowed range. So cable unplugged=cel, so would broken cable, or no KS at all at end of cable

o2's trigger the ks, but would it work the same vise versa? I still haven't seen my o2 codes back yet. I guess that's a good thing.
I have reset the ecu once, the code came back.I reset it once more, and for 5 days now my car runs without SES light but poor performance,at high RPM only...is that normal?Im thinking of changing the spark plugs.
Soo............ Today i pick up my car from the body shop...finnaly, and i get in the car and woohoo theres my SES light. The guy there is real nice and offered to help me figure it out but i just said id do it, anyway i go home and check the codes YAY!!!! good old 0304 i erase it and drive like 5 miles it didnt come back. this is a 98 i30 that has 80k. i did a volt ohm test a month ago it it came out ok on a cool engine?
What do u think will it come back?
What do u think will it come back?
I have 98 I30 also and was getting same reading. I used a resister 470 i think from Radio Shack to bypass it, and been putting premium in so there is no knock that I can hear at all. The code did not come back. Before I did that it came back when I checked after 40 or 50 miles. After I clean connections to be sure and rehook the KS up, if it shows bad KS again guess I'll have ot get a new one.

suckas. . .
