1104 code cauesd by dead alternator?

Can a dead alt. cause my brake light and battery light to stay on and throw an 1104 code (2nd gear...)? Or is this two separate issues? Or can it be the voltage regulator or something like that? Any Ideas?

I'm not sure if my car will make it to the nearest auto-parts store that does that. it won't start unless I jump it but once I disconnect the jumper cables, it sputters then dies but lights stay on. That could be because its a yellow top deep cycle optima battery. But when I connected my red top it starts up with no problem(still with brake and battery light on).Could be because it hasn't been drained.but it won't shift into 2nd gear. Anyone have any suggestion? If I do need an Alt. where is the best place to get a new 200amp Alt.?

When you try to start the car, do you get a series of clicks along with dash lights flickering and the car doesn't start?

Brake and battery light on = dead alternator.
