K&N Drop in

What kind of K&N filter do I need that would fix the Maxima? Do they come in different sizes?

It should just drop in right? Then I could take off either the top or bottom piece from the airbox to increase air flow and sound?

Would it still sound as good as a pop-charger?

You shouldn't be taking off the top or bottom piece of the airbox. You could try the hacked airbox mod with the K&N panel filter, but who needs the racket?

Just buy the K&N filter, drop it in, and call it a day.

I don't have to cut open the MAM or MAF do i? What exactly is involved in installing the filter. I saw one site where they had to duct tape it

You just specify the year of Maxima you have. The drop-in air filter is the exact same size as the Nissan OEM or any other after-market paper air filter. This isn't rocket science.

I hope this doesn't sound ricey, but do you still get a good osund of it compared to a CAI?

It breathes better than a paper air filter and there is a bit of a growl from it at WOT, particularly when combined with an after-market y-pipe, such as Budget which is what I have.

My Max is already loud for some reason or another. Ive yet to figure out why since I haven't modded it yet. Can't wait to start modding! This is the first car I've attempted to really make my own and modify.

I posted this in another is thread asking weather or not the K&N was worth it.

Then I punched it and started the stopwatch. I stopped it as soon as the radar gun read 60.

I did 3 runs with the K&N that has about 6k on it, then I did 3 runs with the Fram that has about 3K on it, then 2 more with the K&N, and then 2 more with the Fram.

K&N
8.18
8.14
8.10
8.16
8.23

Fram
8.46
8.43
8.40
8.37
8.50

K&N average- 8.16
Fram average- 8.43

I have nothing performance wise done to my car yet. The only thing different from stock about my intake is 1 3" hole in the air box. I tried as hard as I could to make the results as accurate as possible.
