300ZX Brakes
300ZX Brakes
Alright so im looking for info on converting to 300ZX brakes, any info is appreciated but esspescially the following-
1-How hard is this to do(is it just plug and play)
2-What size wheels would i need?
3-do most people do all 4 wheels or just the fronts?
4-Other than being bigger is there any other reason these are better(pistons etc)
5-Cost wise what will this run
6-Will it work with ABS?
7-do most people get OEM new parts or junkyard parts?
8-will this stiffen my damn spongy pedal?
Anything else u got i would love
Thanks

1 - dont have 1st hand experience but I would think if you havent done any brake work may want to have some one experienced with you to supervise.
2 - Dont know this myself but I believe it will not fit on stock wheels not matter which ones
3 - Just the front.
4 - Bigger more suface, shorten stopping time
5 - for the 300Z plus rotors probably in the $600 area
6 - Will work on any maxima
7 - the calipers you can get from a junk yard, get the addition hardware from jeff, rotors, someone will chime in with a link
8 - it will stiffen the hell out of your pedal, 4 piston brakes, with good pads, and properly bleed brakes, should have some neck snapping resutls.
*disclamer: my respone is based off my reading here on the site.*

I've had the conversion for 5 years now, I was one of the first to do it.
1.) It's not hard, if you know how to do standard brake work.
2.) Size of wheel depends on a ton of things.
3.) Just the fronts, the rears are very expensive to convert, check with Blehmco for the conversion parts if you're interested in that.
4.) Less fade, and just to be clear, unless you get the Cobra rotor conversion, the brakes are no bigger. 11" 300ZX rotor vs. 11" stock rotor. Just thicker rotors and 4 piston calipers, so less fade.
5.) I have no idea these days what the calipers run, I got mine for $100. The rotors/pads will depend on what brand you want.
6.) It will work fine w/ ABS.
7.) 300ZX stuff has to be junkyard. Other stuff I would get new, you don't want to deal with used rotors/lines.
8.) Nope, pedal travel will be longer because of the extra fluid needed to push out 4 pistons per wheel instead of 1.
If you want to do this, I would tell you to just go w/ the Cobra rotor conversion. Rotors are cheaper this way, and it makes a much bigger difference than going w/ stock 300ZX rotors. When I went from stock brakes to 300ZX brakes, the results weren't crazy, somewhat better stopping, less fade. But when I went to the Cobra rotors this year, it was night and day. 13" > 11" rotors any day.
