you may be off about this...150 miles per gallon x 17.5 gallons=close to 900 miles per tank.

drive slower than grandma, check your tb, knock sensor, and anything associated w/the stickies.

It's "idiocy" and you're excused, lol! My car isn't used for commuting anymore, but when it was I could get 350 miles to a tank - 11 miles each way - at no more than 40mph, with lights and stop and go along the way.

150 miles to a tank - something is fubar! Have you replaced your knock sensor before?

Damn that's pretty poor. I get between 300 and 350 miles on a tank in the city (depending on how I drive) and 400+ on the highway. It's been like this since I changed all O2 sensors/Knock Sensor.

I usually get about 21/22/23 mpg but noticed a 4mpg increase when I switched to Shell gas. No fluke either city/highway combined with shell was 26 mpg, I've had this car a year and never got more than 24 on the freakin highway!

i drive 80+%city and rest hwy and
i use this car to drive to school and with lots of traffic( lot too much though)
150for full tank
u must be flooring everytime and going to 100mph and breaking like crazy or some thing( and repeating this 10times every minute) or else there's something wrong with the car, personally i want to believe the latter, check our code or something cuz i dont know much i am a .

When I first read your post I was like 150MPG, damn you must have a maxima hybrid or some sh*t.

Lets say premium gas where your at is $3.10 (it has to be at least that in Chicago) and you get 150 miles per 16 gallons. That is 9.375MPG! That means it cost you 33 cents a mile. That sucks. I was worried about gas just jumping up again, but I don't feel so bad anymore after reading this. Good Luck with finding your problem.

150 mpg would do wonders right about now. 150 per tank check for codes, maybe even knock sensor. Make sure someone isn't siphoning your gas at night which will soon come reality with these gas prices.

I get about 200-220 city. I think I found a way to improve your mpg like one point. Take your car on the highway and go like 80mph for like 30 minutes. That helped me.

Are you sure that your car is not leaking gas or running overly rich? Are your air filters and gas filters clean? Ever have your O2 sensors checked?

150 per tank? When I do "city driving" i get atleast 300 miles to a tank, and when I just went on vacation last week (9 days) I drove 1300 miles (almost all highway and 50mph+ backroads) from Cape Cod, MA to northern ME, then to northern NH...

I got over 450 miles per tank on the hwy and calculated ~ 29mpg (5-speed 80mph on all highways ... cruise control.)

You need to do a tuneup, plugs, clean tb, replace/clean air filter etc.

I'm also a member of BITOG. Your fuel economy is very poor. I get about 350 city and 500 plus on the highway with no AC, but using CC. I'd check into that mileage, particularly since you are using FP60.

Not good my friend!

Yes, I have done a complete tuneup and maintenace. All that is left is the radiator flush. No sensors have been replaced ever though. but I get no codes for them....and I cant get siphoned because the only way to open the gas door is from the inside pulley **** thingy.
and shiittt Premium gas here at the cheapest gas station (Marathon) is at $3.46

Yea you best fix your mileage... In the last week gas prices around me went from 2.70 for premium, now its 3.40 + ... and its only gonna get worse thanks to this hurricane.

Time to go buy some 50 gallon drums and fill them up

I get about 300-340 per tank. I started to get bad gas mileage, so I made a few minor adjustments and noticed a big difference. New air filter, new pcv valve, checked tire pressure, etc. All are cheap to do, but will help in the long run. You might also want to check for abnormal break wear. Maybe you have a caliper that is hung up, or you E-brake is not releasing all of the way.

This just turned into a mileage thread

Mileage on the car has nothing to do with MPG .. I have 230.5k and still manage to get ~ 28-29 highway.

My Max gets about 16-17 mpg in the city.. depending on how I drive. I'm sure it could be better but I have a hard time not "gittin on it". It turns 30-31 mpg on the road. The short trip in town is what I think kills my MPG. I normally go about 2 weeks 170+ miles between fill ups.

First, never use mileage/tank to measure fuel economy. Talking about how many miles per tank is a pure waste of time, since nobody fills at the same time. Even if you wait for the E light and immediately go to a gas station, you'll get significant error.

Only do it this way:
1) Fill up to the top, quit when it clicks. Don't 'top off'.
2) Reset your trip odometer.
3) Drive until the tank is at least 1/2 used.
4) Fill up again, preferably using exact the same pump as before, and again, don't top off. Now divide the number of miles on the trip odo by the number of gallons on this fill-up. THIS is your fuel economy. FWIW, mine gets 19-25mpg. For pure highway driving, this should be higher and I suspect I have something in mine wasting a little fuel.

To get only 150mi per full tank (about 10mi/gallon) you probably have something wrong with your fuel tank level sensor (fooling you into thinking it's time to fill up too early, or some major fuel system issues (leaky injector) or bad sensors causing it to run way rich. First run the fuel economy test, and see if the tank level sensor is working as it should. Second, pull the spark plugs and see if any one of them looks drastically different from the others. Third, tell us when these items were last replaced:
- fuel filter
- spark plugs

All maintenance was done with this past month, including fuel filter(300zx), spark plugs(NGK Copper), Air filter(Purolator), Cleaned Throttle body, IACV valve, Replaced PCV valve, Drain and fill of tranny fluid, and probably anything else I forgot about.
I just checked and I have ghost codes stored(1101 and 1403).

Since 45 mph is the speed at which maximum mpg is achieved, I would not label it city driving, especially since that is the speed manufacturers use to estimate highway speeds.

The most accurate way to measure your maximum mileage is to put exactly a gallon in your tank and then see how far you get before you stall.

i'm not really saying anyone should do that, but it would clearly define, operationally, what we mean by "Miles per gallon."

How would you know that your tank is empty to begin with? Some cars 'run out of gas' with fuel still in the tank.
