I asked around quite a bit before I bought mine... if it was worth spending the dough on a good brand... All i ever heard was, don't waste your money. Basically it's a steel rod so durability differences are neglegable in my opinion (not familiar with aluminum rods, but i'm sure same dif)... i picked up a $25 shifter on ebay and i am super happy with it. As far as the 60% shorter throw... it was true in my case.. i believe the horizontal throw from first to second gear stock is roughly 6 inches. the throw on mine is easily 3 inches if not less... so it's at least a 50% shorter throw.

There is one thing i did tho and that is cut off an additional 2" from the rod. As is, the aftermarket rod shortened the throw but the height was the same on the shifter... I think you need to do both for complete satisfaction. Anyway, I would recommend doing what i did... grab a shifter for $25 on ebay, cut it down a bit and enjoy.

Some people on the board have had their ebay STS's snap in half while shifting. I'd go with nothing but a B&M or Stillen STS. You're taking a gamble when buying cheaper parts.

You're referring to the Aluminum STS that are on ebay. I picked up a steel STS, which shouldn't break on hard shifting, for 27 dolla shipped. I haven't had it installed yet (rust and sht have prevented me from doing so the two times I attempted it, and not the ones on the exhaust I might add..) but Dave SZ has it, and really likes it.

I split the diff and went with an adjustable pacesetter.
