5speed transmission, in the boot
5speed transmission, in the boot
Paranoid quesiton ... I'm doing a 5 speed swap.. got the 5speed reconditioned
I had it in my boot for 2 days after I got it back from the gearbox shop.. it moved round abit but nothing crazy ... is there any chance any thing could have got buggered up? Its just that I stopped suddenly a couple of times and could here it bump a couple of times
I'm thinking the gearbox is fairly sturdy so should be okay... Can I shift gears with the trans out of the car without breaking anything? theres no trans oil in at the mo

It will be fine. Cars can go through accidents and still have a perfectly fine trans. BTW in the states we call it a trunk... hardly anyone will know what a boot is lol.
Yes you can also bench shift it without it in the car.

The only thing you should worry about damaging is the striking rod which is the rod thats on the tranny that connects to the shift linkage. I have had mine bent one time to the point where it ruined the seal. Then again I bought my tranny used so it might have been dropped on it, it shure takes a lot of force to bend it but it is possible as I discovered.
