Tool Set

My family is not into fixing things( my dad being a professor and my mom being a teacher) I have no tools whatsoever. Last week I was really bored and wanted to hack the airbox. I could not take out the lower to drill holes. dam it. Anywayz I then attempted( ?) to poke holes by using a knife, I poked some tiny holes but made no difference.
What tool set should I get and how much would they cost. And what would you do to drill holes in the airbox?

Craftsman 263 piece socket set will take care of 90% of whatever you need to do to the car. It's about $200 w/ lifetime warranty. Use a hole saw to cut the holes in the air box.

It's worth it in the long run. If you become an avid DIY-type, the toolset will pay for itself in two months.

Trust me $200 is well worth it for what you get in those Craftsman sets. I use only Snap-on, Matco, and SK tools and have easily spent over $100 just for a set of wrenches and nearly $200 for a set of impact sockets. I also have ratchets that were $100 a piece. So when you look at it that way $200 for a complete tool set isn't bad at all. You'll use them more often than you think (not just for fixing your max) so in the long run it's worth it

it's worth it, though. don't think of it as a big ol price tag, but rather as an investment. liftime warranty means exactly what it says. i realize you are pretty new to the site, which may also mean you are pretty new to the car or modding. figure out what it is you want to do with/to the car, and if you are willing to invest in the car, the tools will definitely be worth it. for example, you'll save two times that amount if you were to install your own suspension rather than take it to a shop. it'll pay for itself many times over if you apply it correctly.

If you break a Craftsman, take it Sears and they will replace it for free, no questions asked. Same goes for any Husky and IIRC, Snap-On. When you start buying impact guns and compressors is when you have to seriously think about how much car work you plan on doing.

investing in tools is never a bad choice if you want to start doing things yourself. if $200 is too steep for you to start off with, i would suggest 2 things. either goto a homedepot, or lowes, and look to see what is in your price range. if you dont like what your gonna get for the money you have to spend, try wallmart and pick up something basic. realize though, that it will be lower quality, and will break much easier.

the other route you can go, is look for a used set. Ebay and craigslist are very good for people with budgets. you will definately get more for your money, and i would DEFINATELY suggest looking for a used craftsman or husky set . in case anything breaks, you can bring it back for a new one.

I only brought a 42 piece 1/2 drive socket set.. I'm hoping it will be sufficent for the 5speed swap.. I know I will need to buy a 1.5" socket still though .. from looking thru the HLH instructions you only use a limited number of metric socket sizes anyway (before someone flames me for buying tiny kit - tools are mad expensive here compared to the US.. I can only dream of cheap tools like a transmission jack adapter for $US40 .. can't seem to buy them here and if you did they'd be 100's

haha you poked tiny holes with a knife, thats crackin me up. like you were desperate for it.
anyway, my friend is similar to you, he wants to modify his car but he's got no tools. i never understood why, i guess ive taken for granted how lucky i am to have my dad with a billion tools in our shed.
but its hilarious when he comes to my house asking for help and he's got like one screw driver in his pocket hahaha.

well not to brag, since most of all my family members are mechanics, and so is my dad everything in the garage is snap on, from wrenches sockets, to air tools, toolboxes..

anyways ive seen sears have a nice socket wrench set for about 60 dollars, has all the general tools you will need. from 10mm to 20mm.

best thing to do, if you could spend about 5 to 10 dollars a week and buy a tool, in no time you would have a nice tool set in the works, it all depends like how THT said, how far you will go, if your going to do all the labor and work and the car then get the 263 tool set, if your the type of guy that takes your car to a mechanic alot get the 40 dollar set
