Is anyone here running an ignition box? I'm looking at an MSD or Jacobs box to get rid of that damn bog below 3,000 RPM. I've got a '99 SE automatic. You guys know what I'm talking about, right? It's when you're driving the car from a stoplight and you really don't want to stomp on the gas, but you want to get up to speed a little quicker than grandma. You keep pushing the pedal down further and further until the tranny downshifts and snaps your neck.
Should I be looking at something else to remedy this?

how 'bout a supercharger?

i don't think the ignition box will help. the direct ignition coils tend to do a pretty good job.

are you running intake? if so, the stock airbox might give a little more torque right off the line as compared to an intake.

a y-pipe will probably be money better spend than a ignition box.

the only way to control the ignition or advance the timing is by the ECU.. an ignition box will do nothing for your car

Its your transmission most likely. Not your engine. Like SprintMax said. We don't have just one coil. We have 6 individual coils that are controlled by the ECU.

Even with a supercharger on my '98 SE auto I still need Don's VB Mod upgrade to get faster shifting. The SC doesn't really kick in until revs hit like 2500 but when you do, watch out! With or without the SC you should take a look at Don's website http://www.mobiletek.net.

Re: Don's VB Mod?

Its a modifed valve body. The valve body is part of the automatic transmission that controls of speed and pressure of the shifts.

What about the HKS multicoil Ignition upgrade? Why does everyone hate that?
