my Brake Light won't turn off...help please

I finally had a decent stretch of time with nothing going wrong wit my Max. I got in my car last night and started it. I have a 5 speed. The initial start last night sounded and felt kind of funny, but because i wasn't expecting it, i wasnt really paying attention. i couldnt watch my rpms either cuz it was dark out. anyway...i start driving, and about a mile into my drive i notice that my E-brake light on my dash is on. I pull over, check that the brake is off...i pull over again shortly and turn my car off and try it again. the light is still on. The car was riding fine and everything...its a day later and the light is still on. any idea what this could be, whyh it would happen, and what i should do? is it maybe something that i could reset with one of those computer plug in things that tell yo uwhats wrong with your car (sorry for my lack of proper terminology here)

Check the brake fluid reservoir. It's probaby low. If it is low, check your pads for wear - it might be time for some new pads (check all 4 wheels). Once you've made sure you have sufficient wear material left on the pads, just top off the fluid and

Replace the pads if needed BEFORE you top off the fluid, because when you retract the pistons in the caliper, the fluid will get pushed back into the reservoir (raising the level automatically).

how essential is this to do now? I ask because I am leaving teh country this Saturday and will be gone until July. My car is not going to be driven during that time. I have someone who will turn my car on and give it a run around the block once a week when I'm gone, but is this something I NEED to do now or can I do it when i get back?

Nothing essential - I would recommend topping off the fluid at a minimum though (assuming it is indeed low).

If the fluid level is fine, but the brake light stays on, then you might have a bad parking brake switch.

Now to the question of why it was low in the first place.
