Trunk Torsion Bar Question

After searching, it seems that Nissan makes a larger torsion bar for the spoiler-equipped Max's, but nobody seemed to know if the smaller ones are splined and can be adjusted for additional tension. Hopefully, someone has messed with this more recently and has not posted about it.

My mom asked me if I could make her truck lid pop up a bit higher and I'd like to do this without spending money, or taking the trunk apart to see if it's possible. Input is appreciated. TIA.

I already made the mistake of asking without checking. Goodluck.

There was a post in the Audio Forum about this...but in that case he just went to autozone or something and bought gas struts and mounted them and just took out the torsion bars.... I dunno man I think that idea is a little better.

Take a look at the torsion bar mount points and see if there are any other settings available for use. If so, try them, if not, you've got to spend some money.

How sure are you? I have/had an OEM trunk with spoiler, but when I put on the CF trunk lid, it would fly up when I popped the trunk. So, I removed the torsion bars. If there are weaker ones, like you say, I could install those and be a happy man!

I'm only going on what I read in this thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ht=torsion+kit

If you do not have a spoiler, you can purchase the "spoiler installation kit" which gives stronger torsion bars for around $50 from Courtesy Nissan. i remember when someone stole my spoiler, my trunk indeeed popped all the way open when I went to open it.
