After using E-Brake, My rear brakes are Stuck

I had to park on a Steep incline not too long ago so I used my ebrake...A little while later I noticed my car was a little doggish(like I was trying to pull something), then my brake light came on, then went off a little while later. The pedal felt fine and it stopped normally, but I checked the fluid and what not...no problems there...then I noticed my rear brakes are compressed on the rotors. My question is, What would be the best way to go about fixing this? I'm sort of a newb when it comes to brakes. Thanks.
Kevin.

How do you know their compressed against the rotor?

The only 2 switches that turn the brake light on is the e-brake and a low fluid level switch.

Are you sure there really is a problem?

If you still think so, jack the car up and spin a wheel. It should spin freely with just a hint of friction from the pads if any. Apply the brake, they should be locked. Releasing the brake should make them spin easily again.

to what Tom said.. if the wheel(s)s don't spin (when the parking brake is released), the perhaps one or both of your parking brake cables are binding. The fix is to replace the cables.

Happened to me last winter... I guess it froze. One of my cables ended up snapping and the e-brake didn't work after that.

This same thing happened to me last year. My light was on before as my brake pads needed changing and fluid was low. I always use my Ebrake but when I couldnt back out of my driveway I was really concerned. So I had it flatbedded to Nissan and they changed the rotors and pads. I assume the Ebrake released sometime when it was at the shop. They didnt find anything wrong. After they changed it, my brakes seemed a little wierd. But nothing that would make me take it back to the dealership. Fast forward a few months later and I was changing my brake pads, I found out that the same brake caliper was frozen. I had to pry the caliper off of my rotor(it took awhile). Changed the caliper and everything is good now. Basically what I'm saying is that your caliper might be frozen and you might want to look into that.

Eh, Turns out I'm just an Idiot. In the low light situation I was in lastnight it looked like my fluid level was close to Max but it was on Min. It looked like my pad was on the rotor, but I guess it just rides that close all the time. Its fine now. Sorry to bother you all with my Idiocy. Thanks again.

I had my right rear brake bind up...turned out to be a bad right rear ebrake cable. Going to replace it soon (finally after 9 months of having no e-brake)

yes mine is a lil more complex, my ebrake i hardly use unless im on a steep incline, but late my brake lights stays on and when i pull my ebrake it feels tighter than before and now my back brakes are screaming so i came to the assumption that my ebrake cables are binding therefore causing my pads to go low faster, cause i do notice when i let got of the break the car dosent respond while idleing like it did.

any input is welcome.

Happened today

I parked on a steep grade, pulled the e brake and immediately felt a problem. I drove my car to autozone and when i got there the left rear rotor was smoking and hissing. The guy got under the car and banged it and it really helped but it's still rubbing a little.

I have to get this fixed immediately.
CAN I DISABLE THE PARKING BREAK?

brake sticking, mostly below freezing

My parking brake has had trouble for the past few years. When the temperature is below freezing the parking brake won't release on the back left rotor. First time it happened the rotor got red hot and was smoking. After letting it sit for a while everything was fine. So I stopped using the parking brake. Last week someone else drove it and engaged the brake. Since then the left rear brake has been partially dragging. I suspect the cable is bad, because the caliper was replaced about a year before the problem started. Took it into the shop today to get it fixed.

The same thing happens to me every winter. IT even happened after I changed my e-cable and the 2 rear calipers. THe best way to release the caliper is to drive the car in reverse. For example....you park you pull the e-brake up...you go inside....next morning you come out....start it up put it in drive release the ebrake...if its stuck..you have to put the car in reverse n drive backwards for about 40-50 feet. They should release by then. I never use mine in the winter cuz it always gets stuck. I guess this is the one time its good that I have an autotragic.

I just disconnected my right side unless both of them are sticking. The e-brake useless once you remove one of them so dont try to use it.
