radiator flush
i want to perform a flush on my radiator the motorvate way. open the drain plug on the bottom of the radopen the heater core....connect a hose to the top of the radiator and let it flow for a while...put the plug back and refill.
anyone has any other tips to flush it out? any thing i should do as an extra step?
how about those liquid flushes you pour into the rad before performing the flush...like zerez rad flush? any ideas and tips wud be great.
thanx guys
i dont plan on removing the plugs on the back of the engine...due to the tedious work of dropping the ypipe to gain easy access to the plugs. (i think its the ypipe)

1. drain radiator
2. fill with distilled water
3. run engine untill thermostat opens and newly added water circulates through system
4. flush radiator again and repeat steps 2 and 3.
5. (optional) flush rediator once more and repeat 2 and 3,
6. flush radiator and fill with coolant.
This method will let you clean out the rear banks without removing those 2 hard to get bolts under the ypipe. When you run the engine, the water that you add circulates in through the system and brings the crap from the rear banks into the radiator. Doing this a few times will get most of the old stuff out. Then you will the entire radiator with just coolant, it will mix with the remaining distilled water in the rear banks.

This method, although more thorough, is IMHO overkill. As long as you do regular drain/flush/fills of the radiator (i.e. every 2 yrs or less), I don't think a complete flush is necessary.

I agree. Im just saying this method is best if you need to do a complete flush and dont want to take out those hard to reach plugs in the back. This is what I did when I first bought my car because I didnt know the condition it was in.
