Someone explain the rear window motors and regulators for me.

Both my back windows the motor stopped, I think the wire popped on one side and the motor is back on another, can someone explain to me how I can figure out what exactly is wrong with them? Maybe a site with visuals will be good or something of that nature, can someone please help me out?

First check all connections with a multimeter to see if you're even getting power to the motors. If so then the motor is shot. If you want to take the cheap way out buy a rebuilt motor, otherwise get a new one from the stealership. Even if you only have half a brain you should be able to figure it out. Most regulator motors only attach with 2 or 3 screws. A rebuilt may not come with a harness so you may have to splice the new wires in but that's no big deal. Goodluck

thats gangster...

i think it sounds like the regulator because the windows just slide down without even messing with them...from my understanding the regulator holds the window in its place and the motor powers the regulators to move the windows up and down...if it was the motor, the windows just wouldnt move at all-they shouldnt fall down and not be held up

does this make sense to anyone?

Makes sense, not sure why I didn't think of that. A common problem in VWs is their regulators get all screwed up all the time (the steel regulator lines get caught and twisted and break all the cheap plastic parts that makeup part of the regulator). So if something similar happened in the max then the regulator would have lots of free play and not hold the window up. However the regulator is sold with the motor already in it so you're buying a motor as well either way. Seems odd that the regulator on the rear windows would go though. I mean how often do you really use the things?
