Low but Comfortable ride?

Hey,

Im all new the the maxima scene and i have a question. I know alot of people swap out the struts and shocks to get a lower ride. My question is just how comfortable is the ride? With my max im going more for looks then i am for racing it ( i.e. a ****load of performance mods and such ) mainly cuz in a couple years i plan on buying a wrx or something for racing purposes ( seen a wrx runs 9's at the local track all day .. ) ..wat combination would i use in order to still fit 19'' rims, lower my ride, no rubbing, and still get or even improve on a more comfortable ride?

If you did some math, you could see what 19"'s will fit w/o rubbing, but lowering +19's = harsh ride, no matter what the set-up .. but this is all personal opinion.

A true coilover setup ie. K-Sports, JIC's would be your best bet if you want to maintain ride quality while slamming it. If you do go the strut/spring route, you can get new rear mounts from i believe mzmtg which will get you back some of the rear travel you loose when putting it down.

H&R's will probably give you the most comfortable ride out there. Eibachs would probably be my weapon of choice with respect to springs on the 4G though.

h&r springs are the closest to stock lowering springs available. they are only 30% stiffer than stock and lower an inch and a half. most others are 50% stiffer. illumina's are hands down the best strut you can buy. they are 5-way adjustable, and the "1" setting is pretty soft. when you start talking about putting bigger rims into the mix, the words, lowered and comfortable do not belong in the same sentence. i dont care what anybody says. some people will tell you that there car rides like a cadillac with this set-up, but i suggest they get out of their car and go drive a caddy.. there just use to it, but that set-up is the "best of the worst". i have it myself after suffering through much worse ones. to make the ride a little more bareable i would also suggest you look into and think about getting a set of sub-frame connectors installed.. warpspeed performance finally got off of their lazy azzes and made new sets that they are now shipping. im getting mine installed thursday.

I dont think he is saying anything about his coilovers.

Funny thing if you yahoo his coil overs it just shows a lot of threads with "Boss Chen Industries" from his sig. . . . . . actually its not that funny

ummm no. i have ksports with 19's on 35 profile and the ride is very smooth. however it gets bouncy (still comfortable) on bad roads and harsh on big potholes. then again its harsh on potholes on stock suspension too...

and to answer his question. try to get a full coilover setup, one that still retains suspension travel which idealy gives u a better ride quality, these include D2/K sports and JICs. you can also get TEINS but it only drops you. it rides pretty smooth but it doesnt retain suspension travel. you can find out more here http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaCoilovers

IMO shock and spring setup is harsher than true coilovers.

my tein s-tech/kyb agx combo is kind of harsh, but i've gotten used to it, and it's smoother than you might think.

like i stated earlier... these people are just use to the ride.. take a good look at a 35 profile tire and ask i yourself if thats going to give you a " comfortable ride".. use some common sense here.

My 4th gen. I-30t is dropped about 1 1/2" with Eibach springs and Koni adjustables. Even with the shocks adjusted to max cush, the ride is pretty harsh. On the other hand, the car handles GREAT!

I didn't realize how great until last month when I bought a brand new 6th gen. Maxima. It's all stock, very quiet, smooth, and comfortable; but it feels like a boat going around corners. (The unsupportive driver's seat doesn't help. When I turn right I feel like I'm slipping off the leather seat to my left, caught only by the lap belt. Anyone know a good custom bucket I could put in place of the driver's seat on a 6th gen.?)

Anyway, tough call. I still have both cars. As a friend of mine said, you spend 99% of the time going straight. So, I'm keeping the new Max stock.
