Max gots the shakes
Max gots the shakes
wutup all heres the prob, the other day i went to start the car and when it did that car starts to shake like its goin to stall. from the exhaut it sounds like its coming out in spurts instead of a nice flow like usuall. i checked for codes but i'm not getting anything, and a CEL doesn't comeon either. tried resetting the ECU but that didn't work either. when i checked under the hood i can hear a clicking noise. feels like i've lost a lot of power too. don't know what it could be, its not in diagnostics mode either. its drivable but still get shaking thoughout the rpm band. anyone got any ideas.
Its most likely a bad fuel injector but are you sure the CEL didnt come on? The same exact problems you listed happened to my old 95 gxe, therefore I replaced the bad fuel injector and the spark plugs and the car was back to normal.
I had a misfire when I first got my car and it was really bad. I checked all the coil packs with a multimeter and replaced two of them. The car still continued so then I replaced all the fuel injectors and all has been good since then.
how can i check coil packs with multimeter?? my CEL comes on and it was blinking for awhile? i think the screw on my ecu is broken cuz i can't tell when it stops so its kinda hard. does the dealership check CELS for free or is there another alternitive?
Dealership here charges like $120 to pull codes. What a joke. Just goto Autozone and ask to rent the OBDII Code reader for free and leave them your ID. Take it outside to your car, plug it in under the dash, pull the codes and return it.

With the engine idling, switch the #1 and #3 cylinder coilpacks and check the codes afterward. If the misfire moves to cylinder 3, then you know to replace that coilpack. If the issue remains with the #1 cylinder, you know to replace that injector.
I've been having the same problems, but my question is if you were to leave the car idling while switching the coils out then you will get a code for cyl 3 anyways even if the coil is bad once you unplug it if i'm correct? I tried to diagnose my problem by unplugging a couple of sensors like the TPS and such, and sure enough it didn't make the car run better, but a code came up for it. I would say you switch out the coils with the engine off. Once you unplug either coil you're ECU will throw codes.
It doesn't matter if the ECU throws codes. You can always clear them afterward. That's not the point.
You remove them with the motor on so you can see RIGHT AWAY what the result is. And with the method i described you can see clearly whether it's an injector or coil.

as you rev the engine does the exhaust still sputter or does it seem to mellow out and flow?
I'm thinking it's starving for gas or air..
When was the last time you replaced the air filter?
I wash mine ever oil change.

OMG. You people and these suggestions that have NO relevance.
It's either a spark or fuel issue. I told him what to do to see if it's a coil or injector. Let him come back with his findings. Sheesh..........

well i did what you said cuz i wasn't too confortable with leaving the car on while doin it. i did switch the packs between 1 and 3 but no luck. its not the coil packs becasue i'm still getting a misfire in cylinder one. so it has to be the fuel injectors right????
