Max's with subwoofers please help

I've tried posting this in the "audio/electronics" forum but no one seems to post anything back. I just want a simple set-up with: 1 or 2 10"subs and an amp. Nothing fancy. NOW: I don't think our bose HU has a power out for subs. What do I need to have everything working properly?

You have to use a hi/lo converter, tap into a speaker. i have mine tapped into my rear deck speaker.

You can have factory Bose with an amp and subs.

You need a line output converter, aka Hi/Lo converter. This takes low level outputs and puts them into RCAs so that you can properly connect it to an amp. It also allows you to adjust the volume of the output. You can go directly from your rear speakers, BUT be sure NOT to tap into the wires to the amps. Doing this will fry your converter. Ill check tomorrow on which color wires are what and let you know.

I had this myself, but soon changed out the HU and speaks as well. I wanted a more "perfect" sound.

I tapped into the rear speakers, a positive from the left and a negative from the right to balance everything out, and hooked it up to an aftermarket amp and subs, sounds great, everyone who rides in my car always complimets how clean the bass sounds and didn't lose much sounds at all from the rear speakers. The only downside is that the spoiler vibrates when the bass hits, I guess all Maxima onwers with subs and a spoiler have this problem.

Isn't that for when you want to add an aftermarket headunit to your factory bose speakers? :gotme:

latinmaxima Oct 17, 2005 01:48 PM

yes that makes sure your bose amps keep power with the aftermarket head unit. hi/lo converter on my car and it sounds fine. i actually tapped min into the speaker wires behind the head unit. you have the amp output if you go straight off the rear speakers so it is louder and crisper but also distorts easier at higher volume. just depends if you keep it cranked or like it at a decent level.

I have a bazooka in the back hooked up with one of those hi/lo converters...I got it all installed for $60 and they did a super clean job from wires to mounting etc etc. but this was at a swap meet in LA
