My goodies... also a question about shipping cars.
1. My company is making me go to Mexico for 1~2 months at a time for the next few years. They will cover $500 a month on car expanses if I take my car. Anyone know how much it would be to send it from NJ to Monterrey Mexico?... otherwise I have to drive around in a little car called Chevy. (yes the model name of the car is chevy, not the make)
2. Here's my ride as of today. She's been worked on since February as some of you may know. Few things that I haven't had the time to install... carbon fiber pillars and carbon fiber interior trim and new AE headlights. Oh and I don't think I'm going to lower my car any time soon. I have to really think about that option. Positive and negative comments welcome

I would take what they give you, your ish will get stolen down there, especially for how long you are going. As for shipping, there have been 3-4 threads on the subject the past couple weeks, did you do ANY research before asking? Check out DAS, dependable auto shippers. Look them up, search!

You would be absolutely crazy to ship that car to Mexico. One thing is certain: you won't have to worry about shipping it back, or what is left of it!
Take the car allowance and store the Maxima away securely in New Jersey, under lock and key in a warm place. That is one way of keeping the miles down and not having to worry about it being stripped or stolen in Mexico.

How many trips a year would you be taking from New Jersey to Monterrey, Mexico? Who would be paying for shipping the car? I suspect it would come out of your car allowance, or you wouldn't be asking about shipping costs. It would cost more to ship it than your car allowance would total.
It's approximately 3,500 miles round trip to get the car there and back. I don't imagine you would be driving that very often.

There's no way I'm driving it down there... it's way too far. I'm only concidering shipping the car down there cause I don't want to drive around in a little dinky chevy. And I really don't think the car will get stripped or stolen at the place I will be staying. It's a little villa with gates and security guards and same at the office. I guess I won't be driving it to a night club or something.

You didn't say how many trips you will be taking and who pays for the shipping cost?
How many trips do you plan on taking to Mexico in the next 24 months, say?
And why would you be so hung up on what you are driving while in Mexico? It's not as though you know half the city there?

dont risk it..its not worth getting your car all F'ed up...i suggest just take the crappy chevy they give you and that will be that...if it was permanent maybe i would have a different answer..but to your question...dont do it dude...peopel can jump fences and stuff easily so just give the keys for your max to someone you trust..get them to drive it ever other day a little bit...keep the fuild levels optimum and the gas tank full...and just leave it in NJ...hope that helps

I agree with everyone else. Leave the car in Jersey and drive the chevy. 1-2 months without it is so much better than getting back the shell or nothing at all. I was just in Monterrey about 1 month ago. And while you may feel safe leaving the car in a gated community or at the offce, don't forget you still have to drive back and forth. There's some crazy people down there man. You're ride is too nice to risk it. And believe me, money talks in Mexico if ya know what I mean..

To answer some questions in random order...
1. I only have the front and sideskirts carbonfiber. I kept my previous skyline rear bumper and I'm planning on putting carbon fiber on the lower part where it sorta sticks out from the side.. if you know what i mean.
2. I'll be in mexico for about 45 days at a time and back home for about 2 weeks or less. (for at least 2 years) If I do take my car to Mexico, I'll have it there untill I come back home permanently.
3. Company will give me the chevy or $500 a month, depending on my decision.
4. I don't mind driving around in a dinky little 3 cylinder car but the only thing is that if I bring the max with me, I'll be less home sick, if you know what I'm talking about for all you car lovers. Being in a strange country where you don't even speak the language can be d@mn lonely.. and plus monterrey isn't like cancun...

You'll be more home sick if you take the Maxima down there and it gets trashed or stolen. Quite frankly I wouldn't risk it.
Is this back and forth to Mexico likely going to continue on for more than two years and be a more permanent arrangement? If so, it won't do much for your love life, lol!
Have you considered finding another job?

there's no way in he|| i would take a car as nice as yours down to Mexico. i don't know about Monteray, but the places i have been down there the roads are far more suitable for a dune buggy than a maxima. plus, as others have said, i would be very worried about getting the car stolen / stripped. if you had an SUV or something i would take that down there... how about you buy a beater to drive down there and collect the car allowence you get every month, while keeping the maxima at home in NJ

I suspect he wouldn't be caught dead in a beater. However, it is a good way to make some money during his stints in Mexico and might go a long ways to upgrading the Maxima over time or getting a foothold in the housing market, if he isn't already there.

I hope you like weight reduction, cause if take the car down there, you'll see how light your car can really get. Leave the car in NJ.
And is the company also insuring you?
No company I know of insures any car in Mexico.
