While these rims look good, they are so darn heavy! Plus, it's hard to clean because of the many spokes. Anyway, I was thinking, should I put my old stock rims back on? I don't have a pics of them, but it's the SE rims from '96. Would stock rims look out of place with my lowered car? And how much weight am I really saving by putting the stock rims back on? My current rims are over 40lbs. each with tires. That's heavy, right? I don't know the specs of the stock rims.

 

I was on my stock rims up until a few months ago. My car is lowered w/ H&R's and I thought it looked good. The reason I got 300ZX wheels was for the performance aspect. I like the way stock rims look, not that big a fan of most aftermarket rims. I weighed my [stock] tire and wheel, came out to ~38lbs.

 

Those rims look great but I know what you mean about cleaning them! I'm certain that once you put back on your original rims you'll be missing the "look". It all depends on whether you want to look good or want to race better.
I think the stock rims will be lighter as they are 15" and thus less mass.

 

I have heavy rims as well, VERY heavy rims. 24lbs/rim not including the tire. I would not swap them for stockers, not with the increased handling wider rims give me.

 

Do you wanna sell the stock 96 se rims ??

just change to a different style 18" rim so you can clean them better(easier)

or for weight go down in size to a 15" or 16" rim in a nice good looking easier style to clean than the ones you have now....

 

Well, I went ahead and swap back my stock rims back on. It doesn't look too bad IMO. Here's a few pics: Btw, my car is cleaner now, I washed it. So, the pics might be better this time.

Btw, these are 15" stock rims on 205/15/50 Goodyear RSA(sucky tires) One good thing about these rims are they are pretty light. I'm going to sell my ADR rims soon. Then, with the money, I'll buy some new performance tires for my stock rims. Any suggestions?

 

those are 50 series? they look as "thick" as mine anyway it actually looks "real" "good" on stcok rims...rides very different doesn't it?.....HHHHMMMM!!!!
I have and will keep my stock size 15 x 6.5" rims they only weigh 15lbs each rim nd I run the stock size 205/65R15 on them and my car is dropped 1.5 with Progress Springs....
stock is not bad after all they came on the car in the first place....

You know, you might be right. I think they're 60 series tires. And yes, it rides much different. I can feel it's lighter then when I got 18s on.

Those GT-Sport you got look really nice. $400? Did that included the tires? If it was, that's a heck of a deal.

 

The stock size for 96 SE rims are 215/60R15. Those pics look like the 60 series tires...

 

no I just bought the rims to fit my tires but like you said $100.00 each was nice too....and they cost total of $448.18 shipped to my door UPS because of being so light 15lbs each rim a total of 60lbs in all....my "old" 15 x 6.5" Enkei rims weighed 25 lbs each so my car "lost" 40lbs of rimw eigth...

You know, you're right too. I guess it's been such a long time since I had my stockers on. I don't even know the specs on them. I checked and you're right. It's 215/60R15.

 

Have you tried washing the rims with at car washes with high pressure water hoses? that might keep you from doing it by hand. If not try some spray stuff then hose off the rims.

 

She still looks like she's ready for anything tho. I think I may stick with my stock 15's and get wider tires the next go round.

 

How wide can I go with my stock rims? I'm thinking 225. Do I still have to go with 60 series tires? 225/60? Any other combination? Suggestions?

 

yeah I found that out from TireRack..225 is the widest you can go on 6.5" to 7" rim...as far as series I wouldn't go gelow 50...stay with

225/50R15
225/55R15 hard to find
225/60R15
225/65R15

no higher like 225/70R15...truck tires...

 

So, all those will fit my rims? I might go with the 225/50R15. Probably will get ZR rated tires though. Thanks William.

 

Be aware that 225/50/15 will make your speedometer off. Since the tire is shorter by 1.8".
