How difficult would it be to take out the manual climate control and put in a auto climate control. I like the look and the ease of use. Any suggestions? Has it been done or is it too expensive? Thanks for your input/ suggestions

The automatic climate control is a sophisticated computer-controlled device. It relies on signals from four sensors.
- The in-vehicle sensor, attached to the A/C control finisher.
- The ambient sensor, attached to the radiator core support.
- The sunload sensor, located on the right defroster grille.
- The intake sensor, located on the cooling unit housing.

I believe this conversion is possible but costly and probably not worth the effort. To judge by past posts on this newsgroup, the automatic climate control is more failure-prone than the manual type and replacement parts are expensive.

I'm afraid to ask how much this conversion would cost

Maybe if I really wanted to do this, would I be better off getting those parts off a '97-'99 Max that's been salvaged?

no one still has this write up? will i have to use the 3rd gen write up (or not because the pics arent even working there)? im decent with wiring, got robbed a few months back and they sliced my climate control wire harness....i put the wires together, color for color, and had an elctrician do it for me after that failed, same result....no fuses blown...my ac just blows hot air at my feet...dealership charged $2,200 for a manual ac harness, cant imagine for auto...so im stuck with it...

a friend of mine wrecked his auto climate control equipped 99 gle... he will sell to me dirt cheap, control unit and full wiring harness...i figure ive got time, i might as well do it....we still dont have anyone who has done this int he 4th gen community?

i just want my ac working again......
