can't remove the waterpump

i have followed the Nissan FSM, I removed all the bolts from the water pump. I have turned the crank counter clockwise 20%. I am trying to use these longer M8 x 40 mm bolts to remove the waterpump but I don't understand. And I can also only put one of the bolts in the top one not the bottom one for some reason. It will go in there but fall out. Can anyone help me, on any suggestions what to do. I am taking a break, before I go out there and finish. How can I remove the waterpump without using the bolts or, any thing positive would help.

What was the trick?

btw, did you pull the entire timing chain cover off, or are you just working through the two access panels?

I took a break and made something to eat. When I came back all the oil and drained, and the waterpump area was much dryer. I did it the way everyone does it with the bolts.
