High end power?

I've notice this a coulpe times while driving, especially when racing on the highway ( just for kicks, nothing serious). Around 100 mph and up the car feels like it is dead. Low to mid range is great, alot of pick up but there is no high end. Is anybody feeling the same way, or is this just me? I know about MEVI and the variable intake on the 5th gen and I guess those are my only options.

well the horsepower starts to drop around 5500, so a VI is pretty much the best way to go, but with an 00vi your keeping the low end power as well as gaining top end, MEVI tends to drop a little low end

VI would be the best way to go as has been stated. You can also get cams for better top end but they're not really worth the coin.

No, they weren't. If they were they'd be a lot lighter and lower.

The car can't accelerate at 100 because the aerodynamic drag is getting excessive, and the engine is running out of torque.

Thats exactly what I am talking about. I've had mazda millenias and 5th gen maxis (I30's too) destroy me on the top end. However in the begining it's a different story.

I might venture the 5th gen max's destroy you because they've got half a liter more displacement and around a 50 hp and torque advantage

it also helps to hold a certain gear longer before shifting especialy from 4th to 5th if you are 5 spd and keeping the OD off if you are auto. Works for me before and works even better now with the MEVI!!!! WOOOHOOOOO

That would be the 5.5Gen (02-03), 00 and 01 are still a 3.0 but with the VI, which has better top end.

Thanks for the tolerance and bump for EZEMaxima's comment of holding your non-OD gear longer

If you think your VQ is dead at 100mph, then you should drive a Honda or Toyota 4cylinder. Even with the USIM, our cars are pretty peppy at high speeds. I have really only taken mine to the limit once, just to see if I had the dreaded speed limiter on my GXE (I do, 118 mph I think ) Anyway the car was still pulling hard at 115 mph in my opinion. My old Honda would take forever to get from 90-110 and at that point it was physically topped out.

Then you should step in a Supra, and then compare to what pulls hard.

I have yet to hear of gains from an aftermarket ignition system.

been trying to get dyno numbers, but engine got messed up by some stupid mechanics at the shop. now i'm dropping a new engine in it.

i was supposed to send stephen max my ignition coils to dyno, but i never get to take them off yet, and they are at this new mechanic shop where my car sits. those guys said that they won't start on my car till late next week or something. so i have at least 2 weeks wait time till i can get to my car to take the coilpacks off. but i can defly "feel" that it kept the mevi pull a little more perceivable. that's all i can say. and i have no trouble passing people on the highways.

Who are you directing this response to?

I was simply intimating that the "oovi" comment by Nmex was unnecessary.
