Of course, he had to include the one run I screwed up and took out some cones, but they had it coming.

But to answer your question, yes, maybe after winter before the next auto-x season.

Yes they do, go to the www.scca.com, not sure what else is in your area. I think Sebring does open track days sometimes, which makes you lucky.

Bumping an old thread with real information...
I autoX a 4g and definitely had no idea it was doing this until some volunteer workers were laughing their asses off because they had never seen anything like it before.
But it's not a terrible thing in a car as big as the Maxima. Essentially, when you hard-brake before turning sharply, all the weight moves to the front outside corner, and the rear inside corner will lift as high as 9" on a stock suspension. That's pretty crazy, and I've definitely been able to miss cones by lifting over them.
Stiffer springs, shocks, and FSB/RSB help reduce the amount of lift, though I still get *some* lift on Konis/Eibachs. But this is also useful because it cuts your rear contact-patch by 50% providing instant *oversteer* which is actually critical to getting good AutoX times. So if you drive a Maxima or Mini Cooper this is what you actually *NEED* to get around those cones.
The thing about the 4G Maxima is that trick rear suspension. When you get enough lean on your outside wheel, the inside wheel just pops up the whole axle. In other words, the car isn't lifting as much as the solid rear axle.
Overall it's a very stable dynamic and I bet a lot of you are doing this without even knowing it on the street. Just brake hard from 30-40 mph and turn left (or right) and you will do it easily.
The RSB with stock suspension helped a little bit, but Konis and Springs made the biggest difference. Technically though, you would usually put on a stiffer FSB to reduce this in a RWD car. On the Maxima, the suspension just kind of works this way, and it's ok.
But get some springs and you won't scare the course workers.
Also if you are considering AutoX for the Maxima. Don't wait anymore. Just do it. It's a blast and if you are any good you can beat some much faster cars with your grocery getter. -pc

Why would you autoX in a maxima? Terrible suspension to be doing that in. Id imagine something like a grand am would be much better for a 4 door car in the came price range. The suspension on pontiacs are very tight.

Why AutoX in a 4G Maxima:
1. it's paid for
2. it's still running
3. i've driven the car for 20 years (familiarity)
4. sedans of all kinds are looked down upon, but autox very well
5. a stock maxima with good tires and a good driver will beat a lot of popular sportscars a whole lot cheaper than almost any other autox option
6. autox is fun, and your new autox friends may let you drive their cars too (i got to drive someone else's S2000 in a national event this year)
7. 1995 Maxima weighs around 3000lbs (about the same size as a civic with more HP)
8. you can fit 3 or 4 tires with wheels in the trunk
9. you won't care about hitting cones with it
10. nobody expects you to be faster
