One of my heated seat switch has a burnt out light bulb, although the switch is still working fine.

If I go through the trouble of pullng the console apart, are these bulbs replaceable with a bulb from an auto parts store or do I need to find a replacement switch?

If so, anyone have one for sale?

 

Yes the bulbs are replaceable. No need to pull the console apart - just pop the switch out using a slot-head screwdriver.

I wasn't sure if they were held in by clips from behind or not and I didn't want to risk breaking them.

hey kool.. i thought you couldn't replace them at all. My driver's is out. Guess i got something to do. Anyone know the bulb size?

Yeah, bulb size BIATCHES!!! Just kidding, I'm just a little wired today. Even though on my way home from work, my CEL came on with a code of 0505, which doesn't mean a thing.

 

i get 0512, about once a year, which also means nothing

 

I got the opposite, my light for my passengerside heated seat goes on but no heat. doesnt bother me to much seeing as how i never sit there but it would be nice for it to work. Wut u guys think, bad connection maybe?

 

if light goes on and the drivers side works. Check to see if the heating element is pluged in under the seat. since the switch looks to be getting power. thats what i would assume right off the bat without a wiring diagram in hand.

Cant be done, you have to buy the whole new switch at the stealership. I forget how much it was something like 40-50 bucks

Hmm... Ok, I pulled the switch out, opened up, and there is indeed a bulb in there than is removeable (it's tiny, mounted into a little rectangular plastic piece that has two slots on it that slide over two copper bars).

The thing is, I found out that the bulb is actually not even blown out, when I pulled the switch apart, there's a little black plastic and copper switching unit that goes between the part that attaches to the harness and the actual toggle switch.
Apparently when you toggle the switch it slides the dohicky back and forth across the piece attached to the harness activating high, off, and low heat.

When i was messing with it and cleaning a crumb or two out of it, I actually got the bulb to light up, but when I snapped it back together it doesn't do $hit. I tried to bend the little copper teeth to make better contact but it doesn't seem to matter.

In the end, regarding the bulb, I think if was actually blown out, it could probably be replaced since it slides off the copper bars and isn't soldered in place, but I have no idea what the bulb # would be. I've never seen one at an auto parts store, albeit I've never looked for one there either,but a place like Radio Shack might have one.

I think I've just gotta buy a new switch, which sucks because I cut my finger open after repeatly pulling that little-a$$ switch apart and then putting it back together to test my attempts at fixing it. So, if anyone has a drivers side switch for sale, let me know. Oh, also, the weirdest thing is that the drivers and passengers sides are two different colors (ds = blue, ps = black) although they seem mechanically identical, the actual only difference other than color is that they have tiny arrows on their switch faces pointing at their respective seats. One could actually replace a passenger side w/ a drivers side, I think but then the arrows would point the wrong way, unless you flipped them upside down, which means one would toggle up for high heat and the other would toggle down. Also, I think you can actually switch the "switch covers" between units, but it would be at the risk of possibly breaking the toggle mount within the unit since the plastic is older and more brittle (I, myself, put a slight crack in the switch housing trying to pry the thing apart so many times) than when new and they don't look like they were meant to be pulled apart, although it certainly possible from the looks of the design. Sorry for the ramble, just trying to add some thoughts in case you guys think about messing with yours.

 

do the seat bottoms heat also or just the backs? My *** never seems to get warm, but the seat back sure gets toasty...

 

Yeah, the *** and the lower back sections heat up.

 

i would like to know the bulb size.

regardless, someone who has the bulb out should goto autozone with the bulb and ask the guys there. usually that helps, and thats what those guys always ask me to do when i have a bulb that i need to replace.

 

Go to radio shack and get a small 12 volt bulb. That is how I fixed my ash tray light. About 2 dollars and a little work to get it to mount as apposed to 16 dollars at the stealership for the ashtray light. This will probally work on the heated seat switch light as well. I have this problem with my drivers side as well.

Just like descent said. LEDs would loopk pretty pimp on those. I think i would like to try that out. If there is a How To on that it would help a lot and give everyone some knowledge on how to put LEDs on the Heated seats.
