Cotter Pin.

For those who changed their axle or whatever you did and had to take out the cotter pin. Did you new ones from local auto store or actually get from the dealers?

Forgive me for what I feel is a foolish question, but just want to make sure.

You can buy a variety-pack of cotter pins from autozone, etc. that give you a bunch of sizes/thicknesses. That's what I bought before doing my front-end work (LCAs, tie-rods, etc.).

Autozone would work, don't need to go to the "Stealership"

great. I saw the variety pack when browsing online, but wanted to make sure. I'll pick this up as well as a gear puller for my LCA, and axle job tommorow.

thanks all.

You could bend the original back. That's what I have done to mine although I am going to be replacing both as one was missing since I bought the car.

They cost like $.10 or less each, and they keep the axle nut and tie-rod on, just buy new ones and keep yourself alive, don't be cheap, damn...

Starting after work tommorow, hope to get it done before I got to sleep.

Just go to the store - they'll definitely have them in stock... it's probably too small of an item to list online. I picked up my variety pack from autozone.

Make sure you torque the axle nut down properly or it will really do a number on your bearings. My shop put only 90 ft-lbs on them and they almost imediatly started to howl. Coincidence.. maybe

Will So. I have printed out part of the FSM and highlighted the torque specs I will need.

Axle nut wont be torqued anything less than 174 ft/lbs
