decision guide!

hey guys, since you are all maxima freaks I need help in my obsessive decision on either keeping the max or buying a new car. I have had it 2 years now, no mods as of yet, and have a serious habit of buying a new car every 2 years. I was looking into either a 94-96 300zx(TT), VW R32, Infiniti G35 6MT Coupe, or 05-06 Mustang GT. Or I could just start modding the max and save money that way.... If you were in my position, what would you do?!?

how old are you? .. id say not to buy a new car, then youll have a car payment and a full coverage payment to your insurane company...thats a huge commitment for a young guy!.. im guessing your somewhere in the 18 to 23 age range .. im 23 and I would never commit to a new car, not yet .. I love my max, I mod 1 mod at a time, depending on my current finances for that week.... not to mention gf, gas, grocerys, rent take the bulk of my $

if i were in your position, i would sell this POS family car, and by a fun car and classy car like a g35. it makes sense to mod a faster car...

this car is really a moneypit, you throw all the money in it now, and its worth shiet later

forget the 300zxtt, if you find one, itll be expensive, and or have high miles. R32 i woulndt get, if i could beat it with my max, not worth getting, but is a nice car

i just love the g35 i would pic that hands down, sell the max quick before you loose out

Why did you place this thread in the 4th gen forum? Does this honestly have anything to do with 4th gens?

If you're low on cash, keep the Maxima, but if you got money to spare, then get the G35.

If you've done your homework, calculated you budget, worked the numbers, car payment, insurance, downpayment . . . and can still afford to get a new car, and maintain a decent living. Go ahead.

If you already know you can afford it and are deciding which car, then this post should be in other cars not 4th gen. If you haven calculated the monthly costs, etc. Then you may not be ready for a new car.

Wow, 96 Max to G35? Big upgrade. Unless you all of a sudden got an 80k/yr job, i'd stick with the Max, you will be thanking yourself down the line when you have a great down payment on a house. A newer car will depreciate in value very quickly.

..It's still tempting though, isn't it?

If you absolutely HAVE to do something to tide yourself over, maybe try a VQ35 swap. that and headers and your car should be able to walk all over a G35, straight line speaking. It won't be quite the same, though.

Anyway, bottom line, learn to appreciate the Max more and you will save yourself a buttload of money--I'm also assuming you're around my age.

If it was me there would only be 2 options. Boost the max or get the 300zxTT and upgrade it. Not too many of those around anymore, especially hooked up.

Power potential of the 300zx for the price >g35 performance and price

I would buy a better, cleaner, low mileage, nicer stock 4th gen maxima to start it all over again.

yeah I had 2 240sx's at one time. One that I put about 10k into it, full suspension setup, SR20DET, etc.... I worked on the car more than I had time to drive it, and it was my daily driver and being a college student at the time it wasn't the best daily driver between fine tuning and troubleshooting. I think I am just going to keep the max until mid year 06' and do one mod at a time for now on to see if its worth keeping. I test drive cars for fun all the time, so I should probably stop doing that since I have the urge to buy everything I drive, lol. But the max is an amazing car if nothing else but for reliability. Over the 2 years I have owned it have had nothing go wrong, and having a timing chain rather than timing belt it is very low maintenance as well. It is strong off the start, although it is certainly time for upgrades. Going to start out with minor things like underdrive pulley, and after winter passes and the salt is off the roads I will be upgrading exhaust from headers back. Suspension is on my list as well, looking at the Tokico Illumina setup on CE site. I really appreciate all the opinions. Sometimes I need a smack in the face with reality....haha.

BTW no 80k job fell in my lap, I am 23 y/o and currently in the military serving proud!

You just got a blank canvas. I'd say it's mod-time. You can mod a Maxima to own most cars on the streets (not considering that it doesn't already stock) It's a great car, it's comfortable and it got some "getty-up."
