advanced posters beware

this is a noob question that you can probably solve in one redirection of a link but

i can literally see NOTHING at night...the stock headlights never were bright enough for my mom when she just bought them and even changing the bulbs recently fixed nothing....what is the cheapest option eg: what "halogen" looking bulbs will fit in the stock casing or how easy is it to get totally new headlights and install them yourself..if so..what are the best ones and how much am i looking at spending

plus..can an idiot like me install them himself?

thanks in advance

Dont know if i know why you can't see. But a suggestion for some brighter headlights are silverstars for about $20 a bulb. They are bright. Couldn't tell you either if an "idiot" like yourself could do it. But if you have any knowledge on a screwdriver and patience you can. but goodluck.

haha im not THAT bad of an idiot ive just never worked on the engine itself only on the stereo and exterior but i just dont want to make a bad move and get zapped switching out a whole headlight case

what i mean by not being able to see is that the yellow light just doesnt go very far and creates a horrible glare where i cant see the lines of the road right after it rains...its kinda hard to explain but i know i need something better than the stock yellow lamps

They are bright in good dry conditions, but i can't see well at night when it rains with them. You should try Sylvania XtraVisions. I hear they are the best for poor weather conditions in the 9004 stock form. THese aren't too expensive either, a two pack for around $18. Worth a try. I am as soon as my silverstars burn out.

You could do the 9007 conversion, but you might not want to attempt that, since you aren't too familir with things yet.

im gonna second the reaiming. if you cant seen anything, sounds like no light is hitting the road. obviously, the lights are on. must be pointing in the air.

if you were just making a point, get better bulbs. and fogs.

Maximas have plenty of lighting. Something isn't going right in your car.

1) Make sure your headlights are getting enough power. I think they get a full 12v - you'll need to carefully test this with a multimeter. If it's low, clean up and/or replace grounds and wiring until you get a full 12v. It may be that your alternator is dying if this dimness is relatively new.

2) Use some fine-cut car polish and polish the glass bezels on the headlamps. They should polish down to crystal clear with little effort.

3) If you replace the lights, find a bulb with the SAME WATTAGE as stock. Otherwise the wires will get very hot and melt or start a fire. I'm very serious about that.

thats what i normally do

im gonna go with the xtravisions and see what that does for me...ill probably re-aim them too i think its actually pointing too low to the ground or something i havent really fiddled with them very much...

its not a problem with cleanliness the glass is already crystal clear i take very good care of the outside and interior..

can i pick these bulbs up at like NAPA or is it better to order them online?

p.s. it could very well be that my alternator sucks i was driving around too long with two 15inch subs without a capacitor but like i stated earlier my mom had trouble with it when she bought the car brand new from the dealership

I have a 97 and I see fine in the dark. Thing is, when I turn my high beams on, everything gets darker because they are pointing in the air. I'm guessing I just need to reaim them?

With High Beams, you see further, the light is hitting the ground much further. The light is spread much farther than the low beams, thats why. Try this on an empty highway.

I can see my high beams lighting objects way too high... like fence tops and stuff so I'm pretty sure that they are pointing up

Well I think he meant that if your lights are aimed too high, its basically the same effect as hi beams and youll get flashed. Happened in my dads BRAND NEW 6TH GEN...nissan quality......yeah the headlights came aimed too high and it was the most annoying thing on earth.

do you see fine in other cars? maybe it's just your vision. if you wear contacts a lot of the time that affects your vision at night.

Hmmm.... well either way I haven't been flashed. As for my vision, I dont wear contacts/glasses and I do see fine in other cars. It's fine with the low beams on but it just seems like the high beams dim the low beams... not enough power maybe?

the watage on the bulbs at walmart are 64/45 or 60/45 i think, u need ot get them from the street or the flea markets if there are any in your area, the ones from the street are 100/65. so u get as much light on your low beam as u would have gotten on your high beam when compared to stock or teh ones at walmart.

^^^Don't listen to this guy, higher wattage lights makes your harness melt, so stay within stock standards for light wattage.

That's normal then. Where I live it's the same way, the city at the time was too cheap to put in road reflectors and they didn't use reflective paint. Better be right with God when driving at night in the rain.

Only one org member said your 95 lights sux. because the lens is not clear. 10 year old lights probably have alot of haze inside and outside probably alot of scuffs, etc. I would try to improve in order of finances.
1. 9007 conversion with upgraded wattage bulbs AND harnesses (ebay)
2. 97-99 headlights
3. Projectored hids

+1 for that, this guy knows what's up. of course, he does retrofitting for HID setups, so he *should* know. i highly recommend it, but be prepared to pay $$$. as for those two links, the amazon one was 9004 ST and the ebay one was 9004 ST/2. so i don't know what the diff is, but i'd assume that the ebay ones are newer. i'd just goto my local auto parts store and pick up bulbs, no sense in waiting for shipping & what not, then you can easily return the item if you are dissatisfied with it.
