Anyhow, I was on 81 going to syracuse doing about 120 mph in 4th gear and I noticed a fuel cutoff of some sort. I was about at 5500 rpm and I just couldnt go any faster. SO then I tried again, this time I shifted into 5th gear and it did the same thing at 4500 rpm. what the f-ck is going on here? I thought the max could do about 140 with a few mods and a brand new dual friction centerforce clutch. Is there a fuel cut-off? not that I intend on doing 120mph.......a lot.

Sounds like a limiter to me. The max can do a buck 40, mine did;-) The reason you may have a limiter is because some Max GXEs came with H rated (or whichever rating which specifies that the tire can't go past 120 mph without overheating and exploding . . ) tires. Because they came OEM, Nissan set the ECU to not let the max go past the tire's limitations. All Max SEs came with at least V rated tires, good to a buck 50, so hence Nissan didn't put a limiter on 'em.

GXE's have a governor/SE 's do 142 MPH /MT

Ifyou want to get rid of it either swap your ECU with SE max of the same year,or you could check out the Maximadriver.com site and click on the link for UPRD ECU's.There is a group buy going on right now ,plus the UPRD ECU will add 30 HP to the weels on top of shutting off your fuel cut off override.

Actually, it's S-rated tires (112MPH) on GXE's without the S&C package. If you have the S&C package, there is no speed limited. SE's actually had H-rated tires (130MPH) until the 2k's with the 17" stock rims, which had V-rated tires.

I have a 95 max with the S&C package and it definitely does have a limiter. It cuts in at an indicated 117mph. However, Car and Driver tested a GXE and it only went 108 with the limiter. I think the indicated 117 is merely speedo error. GXE and GLE 4th gen cars are limited at 108 mph regardless of options.

Yep its sad isn't it.

Before my father totaled his '95 GXE two years later (5 spd), I took it out determined one night to see how fast the little thing would go. Burned up some crazy speed in 4th in no time and the once I hit 188 km/hour (117 mph), no more power for me....drops down to well under 100 mph before you can apply any power again.

Although its nice to have a car that will go faster I suppose this isn't necessarily bad on account of how unsafe it is doing 140 !

ECU

I dont think I would do the ECU until I got the SE rims and possibly a suspension. I honestly dont think the max needs more power and I dont do 120 all the time. It was just a let down because I had a honda civic 89' and a 95' sentra and they both go faster than the gxe max. maybe next spring I'll dot he ECU mod, cause right now my car is looking kinda sad with the nasty hubcaps, plus I just shelled out 250 bucks to repair my trunk after it was keyed by some jealous ***** (I think). How can someone look at themselves inthe mirror after keying a shiny maxima? ITs a sick world.

I said the Max had more then enough power when I got it but now I and many others here feel there is never enough power.Maybe I have a disordor or something ohh well it's fun any wase becareful or you might get the same problem too.But deffinetly handeling then looks then power to back them up is my strategy for supping up cars.
